Kisses, never do what they’re meant to
What they’re meaning to—lean into
And out,
of forward embraces
Free falling
Falling freely in love with
You.
And it's you,
Not the man in the mirror,
Mirroring shards of broken persona
That personally predicts that path
That propels itself into sordid spirals
spiraling
outwardly
downward
to a
grinding
push-start
then
stop-start
      -ing
me up again
and again,
I’ve lent you the keys to this vehicle
knowing good and well that you don’t have your permit
knowing well and good that you are not permitted
to operate moving parts,
and/or beating hearts
because you have a tendency to loosen your grip
then begin to gripe about
things you’ve seen and not yet heard
about something or another
this,that and the third
       attempt to telephone
as my mind slid on a base man
trying to make it home

To me.

Kisses, never do what they’re meant to
Meaning to
        Not
lean into
The bottomless pit you excavated
Back when you were my ex-
Back when your were my ex
                         -tra
filling
    -in
fastidiously
yet never failing to fast-forward past the fuck-ups
Upchuck on the breakup
That broke night
(And amidst the darkness, repaired sight)
And sense
And since-
And sincerely I--
was never yours,
Truly
Nor cordially respected your inquests
Your questions
Even when answers did suffice,
our tempers never played nice
So why temper your tempts with cause
Knowing good and well
I should have never rewound the time
Or leaned in
To press
Pause?
