Shattered

Shattered

I remember that day
When the world fell silent
Not one word spoke
A deadly, sinking, quiet
A sticky red substance puddles around my cheek
Your blank eyes stared holes
A soul that wasn't there
It was a fire red, screaming rage
It burns walls, courses through my veins
For those final moments, we were both too late
Now one hearts not beating, the other left to sustain

And if I could breathe for you, I swear I would
Cause you always said you'd breathe for me, your presence could
But now your presence is irreverent in terms of life
But it reigns over me, today, and until I die.

But that's your today, and I still lay beside you motionless
And you stood over me and your body and said you were dead
The air by then potent
I struggled to breathe, as I laid there in your pool of blood
You slowly walked away
Eyes now full with regret you said
I wish I could stay
But you couldn't save me, and this time we knew it
Leaving the both of us, completely and utterly
Shattered
