Reefbreak
I paddle out
let next wave take me,
rolling over body
as need I feel
for you.
Salt, in mouth,
adrenaline pumping,
you are with me.
Eyes closed, waves crash,
intimate, powerful
and oh, so, authoritarian;
they carry us along.
Is it possible,
that I,
attuned to you,
can feel no other?
Moving, against current,
fatigue threatens,
mind seeks answers
in depths below;
where tides go,
so shall I go
where eddies flow
so shall I flow.
Carried along, resolve
buoys heart and hope,
washes upon beaches,
somewhere
along this coastline.
All I can wish for
is that you’ll be there
to suck the water from
from my lungs
before I drown.
let next wave take me,
rolling over body
as need I feel
for you.
Salt, in mouth,
adrenaline pumping,
you are with me.
Eyes closed, waves crash,
intimate, powerful
and oh, so, authoritarian;
they carry us along.
Is it possible,
that I,
attuned to you,
can feel no other?
Moving, against current,
fatigue threatens,
mind seeks answers
in depths below;
where tides go,
so shall I go
where eddies flow
so shall I flow.
Carried along, resolve
buoys heart and hope,
washes upon beaches,
somewhere
along this coastline.
All I can wish for
is that you’ll be there
to suck the water from
from my lungs
before I drown.
