Green Converse Hightops

Gone is the teen with green converse and a love for lies
his shell has been shattered
he has nothing to disguise
he cast away his innocence at a temptest's inquiry
blew away the veil
of his life's mystery
he still has the shoes
and the memories they bring
like kissing in the rain
or the long days in the park
holding her hand on the swing
like a dying ghost she clings
to his mind like a cobweb
but he waits for a hand
one that will brush them aside and pick him up
but until then,
he remembers green hightops
and anticipates the day he wears dress shoes and a suit
the day
he becomes a man.
