The Way We Were

Rat's teeth
gleam the smile of a paid-off whore
pale young limbs flirt with shadow
carefully gathering panties and bra
a twist of skirt pouting a kiss
before footsteps lace the stair

And your memory
ain't dainty at all
the curse I mutilate with a sneer
history gnawing happily at my bones
though our own empire of sex
lies perished long ago

So what did you expect?
Me, strutting pig-pie horny
waiting to fuck dust
waving my cock until dawn
fingering my ass
with not a stocking of yours
to stroke

Would you have me scream
'anus eruptus delecto'
rock and roll naked
all by myself
when with so many
in need of work
sweet velvet is cheaply bought
to conquer quickly
and baggage free
most easily forgotten

It must be time
to grasp your wraith by the hair
twist back your head
pry open your jaw
and pour a lifetime's worth
of poison
down your throat

But do you hear
that two a.m. ache
come a slithering through the wall--
while that same dumb bastard
slumps to the floor
murdering our song
again
