Lame Ass Heartbreak Poem

I drop my heart on the hard cement
after so many tries to make it mend
in hopes of you realizing what it meant
it was only a matter of time until the end

Walking away from everything we ever had
The spoils of our war could never begin to satisfy
Letting the happiness slip through our finger like sand
I began sewing together these wounds, at least I would try

You built my world in your hands, a shining steeple
Led me to believe in your love, a blind follower
No way in seeing how you led on with lies to your people
You made me a martyr, as I drowned in the water

Now our future fades into eternal darkness
And the grip of your fingers slowly slips away
One final glance towards me leaves me heartless
Constantly replaying that last kiss on your driveway

The memories still haunt me, even in my dreams
Wondering what I could’ve done to make you love me
Late nights drinking wondering what this all means
Not realizing that I was just too oblivious to see

That there never really was a YOU & ME……
