POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I'm a musician, so the majority of anything I post will be lyrics, though I dabble in poetry from time to time.
Redwood
I knew all along
from the moment the rain filled your absence
for the first time that I heard your voice
that I would cut you down
like a redwood
But not before I climbed the trunk
and tiptoed out onto each branch
where I could see a different river spreading out
in every direction
and you’d lend me your leaves to help me descend, slow,
slow…
and dive into them
and carry myself like a echo
to their source, and taste it, and feel the temperature,
and I could see you standing there in the distance
watching over me

The Fence
They came to a fence;
admittedly, an unnecessary fence.
White, only three feet wide, in the center of a beautiful, beautiful green field;
easily scalable,
easily ignored,
and flimsy enough to level
with very little effort.

Where Was God?
My insurance runs out in two weeks.
Where will God be when my teeth have fallen out?
Where will God be when my vision is gone?
Where will God be when the family has died down to a single man,
and the loneliness pervades him,
and the biological hideousness,
the aesthetic deformity,
the inescapable poverty,
will never let it grow back?
Where was God when gravity itself pushes us down,
when the stumble into soft, brown dirt turns to
the body's burst into a bitter gray sidewalk, in front of a casino,
when it lies peaceful at last,
in the...

The Animal
A heat wave, blistering heat wave-
The hunt, I find prey, the prey finds me
The beast approaches, cools himself
In the shade of our forest, sheds his skin,
Reveals rough silk, slippery, sweaty
I run my hands along his fur,
Extends his claws, his tail rises,
Growls, shows his teeth, mocks me, invites me, tantalizes me
The animal
Unshackled
The scent is too much to resist
The war ensues
I win at first, lay him down
The feast
Taste him, watch him writhe
I am in control
Mindless hungering
The salty, the...
