POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
If Walls have Tongues
if walls could find a tongue
(if the wall gecko could talk)
how many stories would it tell
(maybe some Aiyana some Black some Nellie)
will it be of sermons of what eyes
failed to see behind the Veil
or in the dark be still before a harsh chorus
like in a solemn trance of Reddish Summer
and in the haggard silence dance on like nature
wish the night could talk tonight
(about turner and mourners’ sunstruck by the plantation sun)
about shattered hopes in the dark night
of images lost deep, deep in the black night
of mothers who died that...

Only a Mother's Love
stranded in space with grunting sorrow
trapped in a desert sand with a cold head
bobbing-back-and-front, only a Mother's love
can be an island somewhere in life's ocean
that’s vast and wide and like a beacon of light
shine Faith and Truth and Prayer
into the changing scenes of the night
in the hour between assault and a kiss
where the art of losing isn’t hard to master
only a Mother's love shiny and sparkly
can understand the pit of debris in the tears
she can soothe the nightmares in disappointments
and calm all the fears in the fierce...

EVER SINCE WE MET
ever since we met
behind the sheets of our eyes
in every breath I take in every step of the day
your presence lingers on the breast of my soul
and I feel its rhythm in my heart
making my legs wriggle in a graceful dance
in every dream of the night
your love stares at me
and with gentle smiles I hear you say
you’re the breeze in my dawn
the beam in my sunshine
and the colors in my rainbow
sometimes when I am lost among life’s pains
and I cling to the pillows we once dream on
my soul swims in the deep streams of thought...

MAKOLA
do you hear
the crinkle of bags
the jingle of purses
have you seen
that happy child with a new video game
the babe crying wild at the mom
for the toy she can’t have
there goes a girl
with a pale dancing on her head
she is selling meat-pies
he is selling sunglasses
she sells earrings
all walking past each other
do you smell
the mixed food from restaurants
can you feel the wooden bench I’m sitting on
do you hear someone laugh out loud
yes, do you see bright signs advertising things
hmm, a kid dragged along by...

I'VE WRITTEN YOUR NAME
I've carved your name deep into my memory
that you live in the depth of my soul
I've engraved it in my unpublished thoughts
to adorn the pages of my life
I've thawed your name into my veins
to flow to my heart in the silence of the night
I have kept your name like harvest songs
and I remember it with tears of nostalgia
sometimes with the future in my eyes
l write your name with the ink of happiness
with a longing that begins and ends with the color of hope
thus, decorated with the purest feelings
it fills my soul with the...
