The Poem
Take up your instrument of choice
Pencil, pen or quill
Empower it with a medley of emotions
And sight that passed this fading day
Cast the first word
Tasters of greatest love or regret
Sights that were seen
Story of tears and laughter flow out
A word to encompass a new feeling
What was said, was it meant
Step into verse
With fluidity sketch out the mood
Don't slow or falter
No distractions for the time being
Take what is stored in trembling brow
Give it the meaning searched for
Write it with pain

Inside my head
Everything’s thought, but not everything’s said
There’s a world of words needing to recite
Friends and strangers invited in my head
Will they find in there joy, terror and fright
Laugh without reason, cry in an instant
Not everything can I understand
Not for the faint hearted, or for the infant
In that strange, changing, turmoil filled land
I’ll take a journey on a weird angle
To a destination I’ve never been
Theories invoked, leaving all to dangle
Reciting stories that no on has seen
So come to my world of love and...
There’s a world of words needing to recite

My Window
Trees bend gently in the breeze
Two lovers walk hand in hand
I sit here in solitary thought and watch
The remnant of a land mine
Body broken and damaged
What limbs aren't missing
Are now rendered useless
So
I sit here by my window
And watch the world go by
From my viewpoint I see

LOVE POEM

Sunset
I stand at the back door
heavily drawing on a cigarette
Watching with watery eyes
As the winter sun gently kissed the horizon
And I want to to know why
Why a normal discussion
Turned into a raging argument
Why the venomous words spilled
From both our mouths
Why had we drifted so far apart
The sun has dropped below the horizon
Leaving just a pale blue band in the sky
A small cloud drifts into view
It's edges tinted pink from the leaving sun
Slowly it drifts away in silence
Silence filled...

Dad
My dad he used to hit me
When he'd had a drink
Half the time I don't know why
No matter what you think
Black eyes and bruises was my life
It was the only thing I'd known
But slowly as the years passed by
I realised I had grown
Then it came the fateful day
I stood and held my ground
I knew then I could have killed him
But luckily he backed down
Shortly after I left home
And turned another page
He had to find another target
To vent his growing rage
But one by one my brothers stood
And faced the angry man...
When he'd had a drink

Dear brother
They sent you, to that hot dusty land.
Where you must be, a peace keeping man.
Patrolling over, sharp rocks and sand.
To be killed by a cowardly, foreign hand.
I wept for weeks, both night and day.
Listening to what, the councillors say.
Wanted to fight, to make them pay.
Then realised, there's a better way.
The first few I sent, were a bit of a mess.
Tore their skin, as well as their dress.
But I've refined my art, getting better I guess.
The ones I send now, are all unharmed and fresh.
