sneezed in the post office
might as well have pulled a cord
for all the eyes which flashed a terror
0●
There's a train leaving town
wont have to worry bout nuthin
no more, be sure you're holdin'
the right ticket

It's good to see you, my friend
have you any idea what's happenin'
I'm really struggling with the whole thing

what about this one
Just because your hair is short
don't mean you ain't no emily
there's talk you brought a bottle
to the fountain, they say Timoteì
but I know different
either way the youth you drank
still wears you
whatever it was you paid

I wondered
If it's been a choice
between the old life
and a home cooked meal
with your mother
consider this my friend
my brother, the love is such
we watch the window
to catch the flare
from your gun
carry on, carry on

for all the procrastination
weeks on end
it was over in a few words
words
and he, he done
what he's always done:
made me proud
weeks on end
it was over in a few words
words
and he, he done
what he's always done:
made me proud

never been great with titles, but call me sir if you must
((1))
sky seems dark now
darker than it's ever been
and I know, I know in my heart
there's light busting at the seams
trying to get in
((2))
they don't know
and there's no way in hell
I'm ever going to tell them
most of me died
in a court room
way back
they were children
and sometimes I resent
that they still look up to...

Wing
I remember waiting for her call
the cup of mac-coffee
the fear, the worry
the half empty pockets
and the great odds
age and drugs
had ruled out a good fuck
if it came to it
we hugged, and her smile
stole the thoughts
from my head
touch of her lips on mine
sent the blood
where it needed to be
later, in the evening
we walked through the town
held hands while the rain
rained down...

Call me the fool
Getting there was easy
'cause I'd walked with the workers
so there wasn't much chance
of death by frenzied stare
from the good folk
in their cars
trip home
was more tricky
I'd to bee-line
from shop to shop
and I hadn't factored in
the need to hang a carrier bag
from my wrist
as show of intent

some verse for valentine's
(I)
Just like that
tomorrow sings
and her song's sure
to change things
(Ii)
if I drown in your eyes
would you gift me your breath
kiss me alive, lift me from death
(Iii)
we're on our way somewhere
and I hope we never get there
cos getting there is where it's at
and I'd never want to lose that

She puts on the best Christmas (on visit to Shauna)
I stood close to the fire
watched flames
tell stories of their hunger
and satisfaction
I worried
for the two giant socks
hanging down
from the mantle
her tree
stood proud, plump
lavished
with gliterful trinkets
its lights danced, chased
around the periphery
then flashed
a merry choreography
and she, six, (Shauna's princess)
was more excited
than the time her tooth fell out
she learned of the fairy ...

In the case of Me versus Addiction
I'd love to know
what scared me so much
about myself
to have ended up
parked in a lay-by
chasing my life away
God knows I was on top
of the world
thought I had it beat
some poems back
but in the end
my mind wasn't with it
took weeks
for it to catch up
and I'd love to tell you
'bout how much hell turkey...

Not such a misdemeanor
You are the beat
in so many
of our chests
I cannot fathom
the emptiness
your loss
would leave
in so many
of our chests
I cannot fathom
the emptiness
your loss
would leave

I've come to miss
waking up wanted
needed
loved
in love
so I hope you're as strong
as you think you are
cos I've seen rocks
grind themselves to dust
in front of me
waking up wanted
needed
loved
in love
so I hope you're as strong
as you think you are
cos I've seen rocks
grind themselves to dust
in front of me
