POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Poet, nature lover and artist. I mainly write in rhyme.
A Handful of Seeds
She offered me some flower seeds,
from her poor and fragile hands,
to grow in my small garden,
beautify this lovely land.
I didn't want to take them,
without giving in return,
but she wouldn't accept my gifts,
just pay it forward as I learned.
I planted all the seeds,
and many flowers grew,
yellow gold and tall,
against a sky so blue.
I stopped by her house,
to tell her thanks once more,
But the angels had taken her away,
she didn’t live there anymore.
So I left a little packet,
full...
from her poor and fragile hands,
to grow in my small garden,
beautify this lovely land.
I didn't want to take them,
without giving in return,
but she wouldn't accept my gifts,
just pay it forward as I learned.
I planted all the seeds,
and many flowers grew,

against a sky so blue.
I stopped by her house,
to tell her thanks once more,
But the angels had taken her away,
she didn’t live there anymore.

Gazing at the Stars
Heaven's Bean Pot
filled with many stars
as I look through my telescope
from a world quite afar.
I can see the planet Mars
and the spiraling Milky Way
the Big Dipper and the Little one
seem a million miles away.
All swimming in a sea
of sparkling midnight blue
and what should come to mind
but the evening I spent with you.
It takes me back to that night
not so very long ago
when I held you in my arms
and gazed at the stars aglow.
filled with many stars
as I look through my telescope
from a world quite afar.
I can see the planet Mars
and the spiraling Milky Way
the Big Dipper and the Little one
seem a million miles away.
All swimming in a sea

No Motivation
Exercise is such a bore,
it has me in a total uproar!
I can't stand to do it every day,
but my body needs it in so many ways.
I struggle each morning with lack of motivation,
such a pain in my ass, it's complete aggravation.
Like trying to stay away from the sweets and the fats,
there so utterly desirable, no willpower can last.

The Squeak
Its silver handles are parched and dry,
retirement is what it needs.
And that squeak is quite unbearable,
it’s forever torturing me!
There is a shiny new one,
just sitting in a box,
waiting to take its place,
please fix it and you will rock!
My ears cannot concede,
to that annoying squeak.
Why does it not bother you,
no silence do you seek?
Please, I beg of you,
get rid of that awful squeak.
The sound is most annoying,
and my nerves are at their peak.
If you could only fix it, ...
retirement is what it needs.

Sore Thumb
Can you spare me a thumb
mine has gone by the wayside.
I stuck it in a cherry pie
but the pain didn’t go away.
I thought to cut it off
but tried a bit of whiskey instead.
It just put me to shame
my thumb still hurts and it’s really very red.
Arthritis, tendonitis
carpal tunnel it does flame.
Can you spare me a new thumb
I only have myself to blame.
mine has gone by the wayside.

Fox News Really Sucks
Oh yes it really does.
If my neighbor sees me coming
she shuts it off because…
she knows how much I hate it
it's such a waste of time
the elderly sitting in front of it
Fox News pollutes their minds.
They sit there all day long
I guess they have nothing else to do
watching their favorite news anchors
constantly repeating the news
every day, all day long
it irks me to no end
wasting their time on a news channel
that seems to never end.
How do they get so addicted
to watching it twenty-four hours a day ...

Grandpa's Goo Gob
It's a goo gob kind of night,
I'm not sure how good it will be,
whatever’s in the fridge,
is definitely fair game for me.
White potatoes and sweet potatoes,
a little leftover canned hash with cheese,
breakfast sausage and eggs,
more cheddar if you please.
Throw it all together,
add some seasonings,
wrap it in a flour tortilla,
with salsa and some sour cream.
Breakfast, lunch or dinner,
it works well for any of these.
A tasty concoction from my fridge,
made this meal a breeze.

Rowdy
It's been so long ago
at least twenty years or so
your body hard and bloated
your head hanging low.
I had hoped that they could fix you
make you well once again
but the cost was far too great
for penniless owners, it had to wait.
So we brought you home that night
but you wouldn't come inside
you laid there in the driveway
such lonely, sad brown eyes.
I came and laid beside you
my eyes feeling up with tears
I covered you with a blanket
and told you not to fear.
Now your buried
just...

your head hanging low.
I had hoped that they could fix you

Pain
I heard my sister cry
but they were not tears of joy
tears of utter sorrow
and everlasting pain.
A part of her has died
her son of thirty years
to young to pass away
life swept away through tears.
Her grief and suffering
wrenches at my heart
I wish to stop the pain
it's pulling me apart.
but they were not tears of joy
tears of utter sorrow
and everlasting pain.

In The Darkness
Haunting capricious shadow
slowly flying through the room
in the darkness of the night
in the shadows it does loom.
Watching her as she sleeps
deciding when to make its move
gently hovering over her body
softly touching her every groove.
Settling down upon her
kissing her soft pink lips
hearing a contented sigh
a slow rise from upon her hips.
Haunting capricious shadow
slowly flying across the room
back into the shadows
in the darkness it does loom.

The One I Call Dad
My father he was just the seed,
but he was not the one who raised me.
He was not the one who took me under his wing,
not the one who taught me how to ride a bike or swim.
He was not the one who built me a scooter out of wood,
and not the one to take a splinter out of my foot.
He was not the one who played ball with me inside the house breaking my mother's vase,
and not the one in a scary mask handing out treats to the kids on Halloween night.
No, the one I am talking about is the one who adopted me,
the one I call my dad, the one I love with all...
but he was not the one who raised me.
He was not the one who took me under his wing,
not the one who taught me how to ride a bike or swim.
He was not the one who built me a scooter out of wood,

Leaving This Earth
The days, the weeks
the months, the years
they are all numbered
so others can remember
when it was we left.
To think of us
after we have gone
our memories engraved
in their hearts and minds
tears escaping sorrowed eyes.
As we have left this earth
to discover our peace
our souls finding their place
among the stars, the moon
and the heavenly blue skies.
