POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Poet, nature lover and artist. I mainly write in rhyme.
From an Angel’s Wing
Leaves, flowers, and evergreens
mingling together with the brightest pop of red
as the autumn sun streaks across an open sky
bathing nature’s paths in splashes of golden orange
while there hidden in the forest shadows
a tiny feather pure white as an ocean wave.

I Wished for You
I picked a four-leaf clover
and held it to my lips
gently placed a kiss upon it
then made a special wish.
I wished for your love only
for our hearts to be as one
a love that is always special
that could never be undone.
I thought my wish was granted
when you promised that you’d stay
but then your love faltered
somewhere along the way.
Your heart now belongs to another
as you have found somebody new
and the love I felt for you
has left me feeling angry, bitter and blue.
and held it to my lips
gently placed a kiss upon it
then made a special wish.

Footwear
Boots and shoes, I have worn them all.
From the white, crinkly go-go boots when I was seven years old,
to the ballet shoes I tried thinking that’s what I wanted to be.
The cowboy boots my stepmother insisted that my sister and I must have,
if we were going to ride horses then shit-kickers were in demand.
The rubber boots I wore to walk through the shallow puddles of Pine Creek,
slightly made me feel somewhat safe against the hissing snakes.
My favorite tennis shoes, brown and orange in the late 70’s,
went with my uniform when I was bussing tables. ...

Poor Man's Lobster
Another meal to prep
looking for a new recipe online
chicken wrapped in bacon
hmm, that does sound mighty fine.
Seasoned with brown sugar
smoked paprika and garlic rubbed on top
a sprinkle of salt and pepper
now that will hit the spot.
It pops out of the oven
broiled a little on top
looking a little like lobster
this will definitely not be a flop.
Everyone is now drooling
ready to take that very first bite
when the dog comes running in
our poor man's lobster is out of sight.

Butterfly and Me
A courting we will go
my lovely butterfly and me
fluttering from flower to flower
just you wait and see.
We'll dance atop the thistles
basking in their purple hue
take in the sweet scent of the lavender
and pick a few wild daisy petals too.
Together forever we will be
our romance will carry on
fluttering together from flower to flower
just like a beautiful song.

Sweethearts Day
She was getting ready for their date
when she heard him pull into the drive.
It seemed like such a long time
but he was always home by five.
When she greeted him at the front door
he was grinning from ear to ear
holding a box of Lucky Charms
and a bottle of Henry Weinhard's Root Beer.
She said, "Just a minute,
I have something for you, too."
She presented him with a six-pack of Busch,
and a jar of salted cashews.
They laughed at their gifts
giving each other a sweet kiss
sat down on the couch and...

Online Sales
Skipping through the tulips
selling my wares on eBay,
when I sold a miniature fish
but its tail suspiciously got away!
The customer said it was broken,
and sent me a picture to compare,
I could tell it wasn't the same fish I'd sent,
but there was no way to prove it and be fair.
So, I gave her back her money,
and I skipped through the tulips once again,
when along came another customer,
but it didn't turn out to be a win.
She complained about some stains,
on a vintage towel that I had sold her.

Not a Fan
I'm not a football fan
but I do like the snacks.
The cheese and crackers
smoked oysters in the can
summer salami and teriyaki bites
vegie sticks and nacho chips
mini burgers in the pan.
The goofy commercials
and maybe the halftime show
but I'm not a football fan.
Laying on the couch
listening to everyone holler and cheer
sweaty guys running around in tight pants
nope, still not a football fan.

Amoosing Coffee Cup
I watch you lift that coffee cup
up to your caffeine-loving lips
gently blowing the heat away
before taking a bitter sip.
While reading the Sunday paper
not paying any attention to me
I stare off into the distance
wondering if we’re meant to be.
Then I glance your way again
as your still holding that silly cup
it reads: I Find You Very Amoosing
with a goofy-looking moose
plastered on the front.
You lay the paper down
and finally look my way
giving me a little wink and grin
I know you’re...

Ninety-Nine Cent Records
He bought himself some records,
Oh yes, he did.
Quite many, I do not kid.
For his mom to sell online,
a little more than just a dime.
Not much profit in this,
I whine.
But it does help pass the time,
listing old records on eBay
for the auction price of 99.

When all Goes Quiet
It's funny how
our adult children
will come out
of their rooms
at night
to check on us
when they don't
hear us laughing
or talking
in the living room
they suddenly think
something might be wrong.
But we're just asleep
me on the couch
my husband in his chair
worn out from a day
of doing the usual
things we do
and that boring t.v.
well, that puts us to sleep.

Potatoes From the Store
One potato, three potato, four potato more
every potato in the bag was rotten,
so I kicked them out the door.
I loaded them back in the bag,
and I took them back to the store.
I told the lady my problem,
and she asked me if I’d like more.
“Another bag of these?” I said,
“Oh, no thank you.”
“This brand I utterly deplore.”
“It’s quite intolerable.”
“Oh no, I don’t want anymore!”
“Please find me something better,
or I’ll go find another store.”
One with better produce, I thought,
and I dropped the bag to the floor. ...
