I'm a shaman, you said
I have begged
Pleaded
Written
Turned myself inside out
For you to open up to me
Your seemingly inability
Or your reluctance
Or lack of desire
To open up
To reach out
Is breaking me
Has broke me
I mistook you
For someone else
You said,
"I'm a shaman
A writer
An intellectual"
You live inside
Yourself
As protection
A buffer
And in the end
Became a means of survival
An end unto itself
Pleaded
Written
Turned myself inside out
For you to open up to me

No longer valid
A mute point
In wake of coup
Nobody knew
Just wanted a change
Free us
From status quo
Election win
Trump is in
Firing begins
Appointments made
Senate approved
Stacking the cards
Republicans
White supremacists
Anti-semites
Homophobics
And the like
In the end
Happened so fast
No time to react
No time to plan
Free us from tyranny
Christians cry
Wondering why
Their table turned
Whilst turning a blind eye
But we loved you...
No longer valid

Precipice below

Like quicksand
Descending deeper
Into the abyss
Of our own construct
Find the key
Unlock the door
That binds
Break out
Run free
Past the guards
Razor wire
Run fast
Leave expanse behind
Going some place
Better than no place
Rampant despair
Learning to live
By new means
By new rules
Break the synthesis
That composes me
In, out
Up, down
Forward, backward
Round and round ...
