I'm a shaman, you said
I have begged
Pleaded
Written
Turned myself inside out
For you to open up to me
Your seemingly inability
Or your reluctance
Or lack of desire
To open up
To reach out
Is breaking me
Has broke me
I mistook you
For someone else
You said,
"I'm a shaman
A writer
An intellectual"
You live inside
Yourself
As protection
A buffer
And in the end
Became a means of survival
An end unto itself
Pleaded
Written

Well, you are. You certainly cast a spell on me. “Changing my life with a wave of her hand.” I know you, I recognized you. And I would have followed you to Timbuktu, from just one of the many places from which I came—and I did. Not Timbuktu, but to Alexander the Great’s namesake town. I withered in my paralysis and you did what you could, but I was there in an oubliette and neither of us knew how to get me out. And then came 2 March, just as Covid was coming on. And my world fell apart in the altar room. I have not been the since. Auwe.
