POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
A True Reflection
Light pours through the window
The mirror shows a reflection
What do you see?
A young woman,
A victim, torn deep inside
Battered, abused,
Feeling such shame.
The bath slowly fills
The steam gently rises
Fingers prodding a punched swollen face,
The hot bath soothes
The soap doesn’t clean
The dirt isn’t showing
Laying too deep.
Stare at the wall in a trance like state
The water is cooling
So much time passes by
Sadness, despair drain with the water
Feelings run deep ...

Haunted
I can feel you watch my every move
Disturbed in a good way, a presence we share,
Your breath on my neck so strange & yet soothed
My pulse set racing a feeling so rare.
Some days you’re so quiet as I sit in my chair
Just some sort of sign, something to prove,
As you drift past the window I feel the cold air
Sensing inside you’re someone I knew.
I see your eyes a piercing blue
Your spirit it lifts my heart & my soul,
Knowing you’re here I can’t believe that it’s true
Being without you has taken its toll. ...

A Very Modern Affair
Fifty years of marriage, childhood sweethearts so they say
Glassy eyed I can still remember our wonderful wedding day.
No big church just the registrar a few friends my wife and me,
Staying married for all those years its love that holds the key.
As I sit and look at photos past in such a happy home
Something stirs deep inside then the ringing of the phone,
My son’s voice tells me all of the news, of how his daughter gives her views
The more that’s said she just won’t listen, one vital thing I know is missing.
I’m moving out she shouts with joy, to...

Time of your Life
The clock is ticking & never stops
Illusion becomes a reality,
Childhood memories fading fast
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
Alarm bells ring, play nicely children
A sudden flashback, your mother’s voice,
Surreal, in focus, no expression is shown
Check in with reality, wake up from this dream.
Occasional thoughts stir from inside
Remember events from not long ago,
No way! Forty years! Tick tock, tick tock
Move as fast as you can there’s nowhere to hide.
As the ticking gets louder don’t cover your ears
The race...

Nowhere to run
The face is covered as he pulls out the gun an easy target is selected for fun,
Out to steal from a local shop, while across the road he’s seen by a cop,
GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR! DO IT YOU BITCH! Helping himself a quick way to get rich,
He runs out of the door face to face with the cop, a gunshot rings out the lawman now drops.
Not meaning to kill things are now out of hand, on the run & what for? A measly 1 grand,
Blue lights are flashing the police on the hunt, a helicopter tracks from miles in front,
Now running blind & feeling so scared try to...

Why Does God Let Children Die
Why does Lucy look so ill, why does she swallow all those pills,
Mummy, Daddy, why do you cry? What’s wrong with Lucy?
Will she die? My big sister is what I see,
If she dies, who’ll look after me, What’s a hospice?
Why‘s she there? In the doctors and nurses care.
Can we visit? I’d love to see her,
I’ve made a card just to please her,
What’s that tumour the doctors say can they make it go away,
Just take it out and make it better then we can all go home together.
I love the pictures on the wall the pretty colours too
And look at that one...
