A True Reflection

Light pours through the window
The mirror shows a reflection
What do you see?
A young woman,
A victim, torn deep inside
Battered, abused,
Feeling such shame.

The bath slowly fills
The steam gently rises
Fingers prodding a punched swollen face,
The hot bath soothes
The soap doesn’t clean
The dirt isn’t showing
Laying too deep.

Stare at the wall in a trance like state
The water is cooling
So much time passes by
Sadness, despair drain with the water
Feelings run deep
Wanting to die.

Lay on the bed with a bathrobe for warmth
Quietly crying, reflecting, in pain,
Dealing with fear
Can’t step out of the door
A tragic event
A life never the same.

The naked light bulb
The mirror shows a reflection
What do you see?
An abuser, a pervert
Feeling pleasure, excitement
Battered & scarred
No shame no remorse.

A dark filthy act, played out to disgust
Bite marks, on both hands & his face,
The hot water soothes
The soap doesn’t clean
The dirt in your reflection
Lying too deep.

Did you enjoy your sick little deed?
Such obscene behaviour for gratification
For excitement & power,adrenalin rush
An innocent woman carries your seed.

The local news scandal
“A young woman was raped”
No feelings or pity, devoid of respect
The wounds that you show will gradually heal
Unlike the victim
There is no escape
