Missing
Not so very long ago,
I did not know I needed you.
None of us did—
it's hard to miss someone you never knew.
Now, your absence looms large
every time you leave.
I did not know I needed you.
None of us did—
it's hard to miss someone you never knew.
Now, your absence looms large
every time you leave.

Spinning Plates
Once upon a time,
there lived a plate spinner.
Providing the momentum
to keep the plates moving
gave her purpose,
comfort and joy.
Although her life was busy,
she thrived for years
and would happily add more plates
whenever life required it.
Until one day,
she fell—
and all her plates
crashed
down

Life in all its colours
As all the colours in the spectrum
combine to make white light,
and all the instruments in an orchestra
combine to play a symphony—
all of life’s experiences
make up who we are.
Frustrations, happiness,
disappointments and joy,
anger, sadness,
hope and love
create the colours
which, woven together,
tell our life story.
I’ve come to see that
the dark times are just as valid
as the light ones.
Like the minor chords
which form part of the accompaniment
to even pieces written in major keys,
it is in...

Through the Kaleidoscope
Acknowledge the darkness
but do not dwell on it —
months or years from now
with the clarity of hindsight,
you will see how it combines
with every colour of the rainbow
to create an image of great beauty.
Constantly changing; dynamic and vibrant,
YOUR life is a masterpiece.
Do you see it yet?
but do not dwell on it —
months or years from now
with the clarity of hindsight,
you will see how it combines
with every colour of the rainbow
to create an image of great beauty.
Constantly changing; dynamic and vibrant,
YOUR life is a masterpiece.
Do you see it yet?

Right, I have eight of these to write. Do check back later.
Competitive?
I went hiking with Ania, my sister;
we stopped because I had a blister.
She might have out-walked me
and even out-talked me,
but I'll beat her this evening at Twister.
Talent
My oldest of friends is called Anna
I always admired the manner
in which she'd draw, sing, use words;
bring me gifts (some absurd),
play the cello, recorder, pianna!
Peace and quiet?
There once was a woman named Max

Put aside your worry and
lay your baggage down,
for neither belongs here.
Your one job
is to keep swimming.
Empty your mind

And the answer is none. None more purple.
I finally ditched my phone today—
paid off my contact and cut my losses.
It was the only way.
Not having one is inconvenient—
I've become more reliant than I ever wanted to be.
It's complicated.
I could have walked out with a new phone—
they had a suitable model, but in one colour only:
it's boring black!
So I will go without for a couple of days—
because (naturally!) I need one in my favourite colour.
It's purple!
Well, the phone is advertised as being purple—
more like lilac really. Close enough. ...

Terrified
No matter how well things are going,
I cannot be happy

I can't help but wonder
whether my newfound ability
to bounce back
from devastating setbacks
is a sign that I'm becoming more resilient,
or simply shows that I'm
hardened to this world.

I will add to this in the coming days... I've promised to write a limerick for each person that donates to my latest charity fundraiser!
Insanity?
My friend Tanya's a personal trainer.
I'm not really sure who's the saner—
she runs right to the limit
(marathon! I just swim it!).
The answer to that's a no-brainer!
"It's just down the road!"

It seemed like an inauspicious evening—
I had no idea what was to come;
that I would make a friend for life,
that you would become part of the family
and that very soon,
we couldn't imagine life without you.
None of us knew how much we needed you.
Nobody was planning to love each other,
but it happened anyway.
