Ghost Too Close
I whistled a cloud of daisy dust
Watched you dance towards the light
Felt the Knapweed hold my hand
With a ghost too close for the night
There’s to be more hunts and haunts
And more amends to be left unsaid
More sorry songs of the woebegone
That put your splinters in my head
Moving on makes your shadow grow
Shapes your face onto the moon
Lost our memories to the clouds
With a ghost too close and gone too soon
Watched you dance towards the light
Felt the Knapweed hold my hand
With a ghost too close for the night
There’s to be more hunts and haunts
And more amends to be left unsaid
More sorry songs of the woebegone
That put your splinters in my head
Moving on makes your shadow grow
Shapes your face onto the moon
Lost our memories to the clouds
With a ghost too close and gone too soon

Dipping a Toe
For what I wrote was like dipping a toe
In a pool testing a mood too hot or too cold
Not until the written word is given breath
Not until the written word is given test
Can I know if the words I wrote are real
Can I know if the words I wrote are what I feel
Or is the ink just a fool’s sword and shield
Dull with intention but sharp in its wield
And if words I wrote lie sleeping undisturbed
They’re words with no feeling- not to be heard
In a pool testing a mood too hot or too cold
Not until the written word is given breath
Not until the written word is given test
Can I know if the words I wrote are real
Can I know if the words I wrote are what I feel
Or is the ink just a fool’s sword and shield
Dull with intention but sharp in its wield
And if words I wrote lie sleeping undisturbed
They’re words with no feeling- not to be heard

Left the Gate Wide Open
This old road sings its own song
Rusting out memories that don’t belong
Kicking up dust, so I can get gone
Left the gate wide open, just a little too long
Chased a dream on to Castlebar
Made a wish into skies absent of stars
Gave you my best and still left you with scars
Left the gate wide open with keys in the car
All the signs point the wrong way
Lost on a road worn by decay
Maybe tomorrow, for sure not today
Leave the gate wide open, for this much I pray
This old road won’t sing anymore
Gone is the tune I...

Sweet September
I walk the streets beneath the lights
With shouts from the window panes
And the pain I feel seems at home
Under the neon and falling rain
And the church bell rings a song
Of a long forgotten love
Kick a can and curse the night
For bringing me the memory of
There’s nothing but ghost to chase
No more lies to remember
Just the memory of lost love
And the song of sweet September
Dry your eyes on the setting sun
Pray forgetting lasts forever
The memories of lost love
And the song of sweet...

Old Dude
Old dude in a firebird
Rolled lite to the light
His bumper stickers read
Make Love not War and
World’s Greatest Grandpa
He drummed on the steering wheel
His turquoise rings were like tambourines
Rocking out to Cat Stevens
Leaking out like chimney smoke
Choking the noise in my car to
“It’s not time to make a change”
Green light and the old dude rolls
“Your still young, it’s not your fault”
Damn, dad’s voice streamed
Within the sound waves tied to
The old dude’s drumming turquoise rings
Horn sounds, check my rear...

Sandlot Gang
There’s a porch bell ringing in the air tonight
Singing game is over, it’s suppertime
You gotta come on home
We will pick up tomorrow where we left off
A bunch of kids from around the block
We were the best of friends
And the fun didn’t end
Take me back to major league dreams
Cops and robbers and torn up jeans
Where the days were long and the nights were fun
We were stuck in full speed always on the run
Take me back to the best of times
To that sandlot gang that’s on my mind
Take me back to when I use to be

Oh Liffey
Oh Liffey, Oh Liffey
Do you remember the long gone?
Do their reflections still burn
in the waters that bombed?
Or did they just sail away
Just happy to move on?
Remember the fallen
Because the Liffey rolls on
Do the drums hard beat
red ripple your shores?
Does the parade remind you
Of the damage before?
Steady and ready
You helped them to shores
Oh Liffey Oh Liffey
Roll on don't roll here no more
The salt from your wind
Breathes sin...

Echo of a Shadow
The echo of a shadow
Drums across the canyon
Beneath a redtail’s flight
Disappearing through cuts and cracks
Shortly to return piercing contrast
To colors coated on the canyon’s face
Until nightfall, when the shadow sleeps
With a lullaby echoing in its head
Drums across the canyon
Beneath a redtail’s flight
Disappearing through cuts and cracks
Shortly to return piercing contrast
To colors coated on the canyon’s face
Until nightfall, when the shadow sleeps
With a lullaby echoing in its head

Sinner Parade
On the trail of the holy rack
Sorry sinners parade repent
Candles stride with crippled feet
On ground where pagan gods now rest
Above the clouds away from views
Pray both sun and sin to fall
Too much truth to face in light
When ease of night forgives us all
Pack it in and pack it out
Don’t leave your trash behind
Atonement leaves long dark scars
For new lost souls to someday find
Sorry sinners parade repent
Candles stride with crippled feet
On ground where pagan gods now rest
Above the clouds away from views
Pray both sun and sin to fall

Pale Fog
In a pale fog
That hangs on the edge
Of no todays no tomorrows
Where Midnight sits
Weightless for a stint
Silent and calm in sweet repose
Comes a perfect peace
Baptized in the dark
Without song or a witness
Known to no one
But me and the fog
For a moment weightless and content
That hangs on the edge
Of no todays no tomorrows
Where Midnight sits
Weightless for a stint
Silent and calm in sweet repose
Comes a perfect peace
Baptized in the dark
Without song or a witness
Known to no one
But me and the fog

Chorus Home
This old house
Sings a chorus
Humming floor below us
Rattling pipes
N’ clank’n pots and pans
Mama sings her well wishes
As daddy fiddles with the dishes
But mama she’s the leader of the band
There’s the trumpet sound of cries
As the kids drum up lies
For trouble they’ve gotten in
N’ the dog’s wagging tail
Keeps time with the yells
As grandpa tunes up the mandolin
Home sweet home
Built on the sounds of love
From kisses to brotherly shoves
Home sweet home
Where laughter
Follows tears ...

Clock Hand
So many emotions to face, to fix
Changing every minute
in the grip of the clock hand
Most won't notice, just passerby's
Different than the shades nature presents
More subtle in their creep from warm to cold
And too unpredictable to give a season
Only the dam governs the rush the flow
Rationing calm relief moments at a time
Until the clock hand strikes to break
So many emotions to face, to fix
Too faint and thin for a stranger's eyes
Changing every minute
in the grip of the clock hand
Most won't notice, just passerby's
Different than the shades nature presents
More subtle in their creep from warm to cold
