POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am new to the enjoyment and writing of poetry. In public school and high-school, I didn’t appreciate poetry and frankly didn’t understand it. Now I can’t seem to stop writing, reading, experiencing and enjoying poetry.
Stela I and Stela II
Planted in your courtyard
Under the oaks
Bound by the backs of buildings
pedestrian paths
falling into disuse.
For now,
no longer a convenient route
The rain falls and the sun sets
Shadows of bare winter branches.
In your crowded courtyard
perhaps you see a glimpse
of pink and red sunsets
reflected from clouds overhead.
How do you and your sister pass the time?
Growing old with the oaks
Are you lonely without people to gaze upon you?
As a monument,
I assume you were created to be viewed...

US Department of Justice call Uvalde police response a failure in highly critical report
Shift guilt
Blame others
In an official report
The police response
the proximate failure.
Failure started long before
The power of the gun industry
NRA lapdog lobbyists
Political propagandists
Conspiracy theorists
Holding the country hostage to
A flawed amendment
Failure of a country,
failure of a society,
failure of politicians,
failure of congress,
failure of the judiciary

Hate Disguised as Love
You love the unborn
with all your heart
Until they are born
Become people
And sin
Enforce your version of biblical morality
on those that you claim to have once loved unconditionally.
Now there are conditions
for those who are
gay
unmarried and pregnant
made a mistake
unwilling to carry a rapists child
pray to different gods
whose mind and genitals don’t align.
You demonize
torment
vilify and degrade
those
who were once so easy to love
What...

Ode to Her
You take the time to
read my words
breathe them in
Sights of the morning
rain on my face
ice on the lake
trees on the shore
grey clouds
and
pale blue skies
To let me know
they help you find joy
in the little things
You tell me that my words
have meaning
impact
make connections
More than pretty pictures
Thank you
read my words
breathe them in
Sights of the morning

Morning - January 3
Inhaling cool air heavy with moisture
Grey clouds
revealing fragments of a pale blue sky
dappled with pink and white
of early morning light

Nonsense
Nonsense and no-sense
Making sense
of
Nonsense and no-sense
Words whispering
From mouths breathing
Poets weaving sense from
nonsense and no-sense
Binding words to the page
Trapping them in indelible ink
Poets writing
nonsense and no sense
That makes sense
Reading with eyes
That see sense
In nonsense of freedom words
creating
images that makes sense
of no-sense
Making new sense
Ink on the page
Captures the fluttering
nonsense, no-sense
of delicate...

Huron Shores
Greying skies
An approaching storm
darkens fens
on Huron shores
Lonely cedars
in a sea of grass and rush
Dots of colour
tiny orchids,
bladderwort
paintbrush
They bear the brunt
Wind, rain, snow
from far across the lake
Sentinel cedars
Clinging to tiny hummocks
Battered
a lifetime of storms
Sturdy, stunted trees
Standing corpses
eroded by the lake’s power
Dead branches, stripped of bark
Bleached white
Stabbing from trunks
like sharpened...

November Morning
Frost coats the grass
glittering white
Clear blue sky
a cold morning
Breath a white mist
curling from nostrils
Savouring breaths of
cold dry air
