POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have written poems as long as I can remember, since I was a child. I write spoken word, but my writings remain poems while I work up the courage to deliver them. Any feedback or advice gratefully received.
My Kind of Normal - a Poem about Anxiety
Trembling I feel it begin
A soft caress, satin on skin
Spidery legs, sneaking in to build
Webs in those hollow places within
Dazed, I watch it unfold
Afraid now, I watch it take hold
I dread that embrace
Breathe.... Don't anticipate
Those tentacled legs that suffocate and squeeze
Until darkness comes to me
Desperate to medicate
To do anything to placate these demons that seem to take pleasure in this mental state
Anything to get away from this hopeless, helpless, endless place
There's no escape, my...

Hard work pays
Endless grey days spanning the horizon
Work with dead eyes and
Wait half dazed
For weekends lost in a chemical haze
Chasing the illusion of temporary escape
You have one chance
One life, one heart,
You play one time
You get one roll of the die in this game we survive
Will this boredom suffice?
Sick of the wait, of counting the days til I'm allowed to be
What I am meant to be
To have
What should belong to me
Freedom, choice, equality
You call this democracy?
This government is a...

Eternally Yours
When you were gone for aeons long
Lifetimes on I searched for you still
Your memory strong, a primal desire
Never forgotten
Just your image was a blurry haze like a dream that dissipates
Upon examining
But appearance is fleeting
Your soul shines golden through all irrelevant skin
It's always been
The beacon to my lost ship
So I craved you like an abstract thing
Always searching
For that elusive fleeting feeling, chasing
A never ending sense of something missing
An echo of whole
Guiding me through lonely lifetimes
My compass...

I strayed off my path for the pretty flowers
But they consumed me for hours and hours
This consumerism demon devours your soul and with each one grows exponentially in powers
And those that are empowered become a rare breed
When the crowd are showered in ideology that promotes cruelty and greed
The media smokescreen makes it hard for us to see, filling our eyes and lungs til we choke and gasp for air to breathe
Cutting off oxygen and logic like the soaps we find hypnotic
The divide and conquer tactics are their planned and planted seeds
Fear is used to breed a...

Prince
I used to sit dreamy eyed, and open wide waiting for my prince to come
I'd have believed in anyone
Naive day dreams idolising has-beens
Kissing any frog in any pond, that'd have me
Each time convinced my prince had come
They'd sit and promise they'd soon become that prince and I'd soon succumb
I'd find love in everything, hope in their fat, wrinkled skin
But a thousand kisses couldn't transform these toads
Into anything but slimy men in dirty clothes
A hundred misses and a thousand viscous kisses and not one hit
I became sad and sick and tired of it......

Born to Die
Born, like any other
Torn from the cosy womb of your mother into this cold atmosphere
This alien place, too loud, too bright
Confusion and fear
That first rasping breath of air
You scream, then breathe, great gulping gasps
This is how it starts
Next, you crave, more than anything, your mothers embrace
This is to be warm, fed, safe
Instead of her touch, her loving gaze, her gentle reassurance
You get nothing
You're thrown away
This is almost beyond endurance
You're abandoned...

If you could hold the universe in your hand, if you could have ultimate power
Would you let it slip through your fingers like sand
Willingly relinquish all control
Knowing each small action formulates the whole
A painting made of brushstrokes,
And blankets made stitch by stitch
Our thoughts create our world, just like this....
All our experiences, all that fills the abyss
Our perception of life on earth
So really our possessions have no more worth than a flower pot to a flower
And time has no consequence at all
Yet we hungrily devour it hour after...

Love Poem (My Dream Lover Competition)
You've got this touch that penetrates my skin
Like electric shocks and shots of adrenaline
It's like your kiss generates this feeling
That makes my head spin,
Til the edge of reality starts fraying, and disappearing
Til all that exists is this moment we're in
I can't resist, I beg please don't desist,
I can't imagine ever not wanting this
I never want this to stop
So just be my Hiro and pause all the clocks
You're more potent than heroin, more addictive than rocks
Shit, I'm a dribbling mess when you take off your top!
And you're not impressed by...

As a Kid
As a kid I was always told that proper girls should play with dolls
I never could really act this role
Cos I never did really 'get' Barbie or Cindy, or even Ken
Even back then I didn't like fairy dresses or pink-clad teenage actresses
Even back when scary monsters were my only stresses
I preferred to climb up trees, make dens and skin my knees
Play out in the summer breeze
Nothing could please me more than being close to an animal
Chicken, snail or stray mutt, it really didn't matter what
To me this was actual, tangible, happiness..

Freefall
All her life she's bitten her tongue
So bitter so young
She's run round and round in circles so long her head won't stop spinning
All this time something's been missing
She's not quite finished
She's part undone
And yet every time she tried to run her legs were numb
Her mind an inescapable fortress
Obedient, conformist with deep roots to enforce this
Invisible forces, glass prison bars
Unsaid threats and unseen scars
So, brainwashed and blind she rubs dust in her eyes
Ash of her morals, unquestioned advice
She gets high, she gets...

A Final Goodbye
Once upon a time,
I think I'd lost my mind
I'd smile as you lay hands on me
Force plans on me
Manipulate and shame and guilt trip me until I almost believe
I deserve to be treated worthlessly
Your mind games and kind names play with my head
Unflinching as you stitch my wounds with your dirty needles and tangled thread
My deepest fears and needs used with beautiful precision
Each a very small incision slowly building this new vision
Replacing me with it
Bit by bit
The way that tiny droplets so subtly drip by drip
Create huge...
