The Girl I Dream About
When I’m not dreaming about her,
I can’t keep my eyes closed,
Neither can I stay asleep.
She’s lying beside me in bed,
I’m not dreaming in loneliness.
She presses her lips against mine,
And I feel the kisses of a bonny princess.
She appears and ends my nightmare.
When I’m awake without her love,
I’m nothing but a pauper.
She tells me that she loves me in a dream,
And I’m the richest merchant alive.
I never want to wake up,
For she’ll disappear when the dream ends,
And my incessant sadness will return. ...

When We Were Close Friends
We had an unselfish love when we were close friends.
You were a good friend and a trusted companion,
The only one I could depend on for sound advice was you.
We felt strong concern for the wellbeing of each other.
There was neither envy nor pretence between us.
You had faith in me and I had confidence in you.
We would protect each other from harmful situations.
It is a shame we had a dispute over trivial matters.
We used to get along well, but now you avoid me.
I sincerely regret that I said such hurtful things to you.

'50 Year Celebration'
I shall unsparingly criticise your prestigious “50 Year Celebration.”
Let me ask a few thought-provoking questions:
How did you finance such a costly event?
Did the money come from the pockets of the tax payers?
Has the poor profited from that careless handling of public funds?
You wasted our hard-earned money to accommodate Prince “Charming” Henry,
And it is evident you were not satisfied with that.
You have neglected the mad people and the homeless on the pavement,
But you did not hesitate to squander millions of dollars on a nonessential event....
Let me ask a few thought-provoking questions:
How did you finance such a costly event?

You threw away the expensive bouquet I left on your desk,
And you tore up the greeting card I sent you.
When I call your phone, the answering machine says,
“Please leave your name and a message after the tone.”
You weren’t there when I went to your office.
We made arrangements to have dinner at 8:00 p.m.,
But you didn’t show up at the restaurant.
I was so embarrassed that I had to optimistically say,
“Waiter! One more glass of wine please, my date is late.”
I know you’re upset because I played with your emotion,

My darling wants a large bouquet of red roses,
So I’ll send her a lovely one right away.
She gave me her heart and I’ll cherish it for a long time.
I’ll take her love with me wherever I go.
Tonight she just wants to be my baby,
So I’ll read her a bedtime story and tuck her in bed.
I can grant her anything she wants because I’m a genie.
And I’m ready to make all her wishes come true.
To show how much we love and adore each other,
We’re planning to get married in September.

The wonderful memories of you are still on my mind.
And I would rather not forget the good times.

You tell us that we have the constitutional right to speak freely,
And therefore I shall fearlessly and openly express my radical opinion.
The colours of the Jamaican flag are black, green and gold.
According to you, the gold symbolises the beautiful sunshine,
The green represents the productivity of the land,
And the black typifies the hardships we face, if I am correct.
Sadly, the poor experiences only black conditions under your leadership.
Hypocrites! Your actions clearly do not demonstrate the things you preach.
The motto on the coat of arms...

Inspired by true events
I am experiencing the worst time of my life.
There is not a peaceful place to lie down and rest.
Why do my troubles refuse to cease?
I yearn for tranquillity in the presence of troublemakers.
The people who I trust perpetually anger me.
My supposed comforters cause me misery and distress,
But I cannot retaliate against my fellow believers.
How could I ever think of fighting back?
If I return evil for evil, I shall become like my tormentors.
How could I feel sorry for myself?
