POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
The Great Depression
Letters to my Grandfather.
Dearly beloved
Severely Missed, prematurely departed.
Even though you're gone,
We think of you often
Reminiscences still fondly linger in our hearts and thoughts
Never forgotten
Dear Oupa Fred
Where do we even begin
How does this paper and ink
Even begin to capture the feelings within
The context it's in
There so much to share
So many stories to tell
Three families worth, since you left
Hope you have a few minutes to spare.
Grandma talks of you often
Alot more than she did...

Concerning Love, Concerning Life
Once every now and then
I close my eyes and imagine
The trinity, future, past and present
And how all the cogs and gear fit into the bigger picture at the end
In search of understanding
In the belief that there has to be a logical process
An objective
Or is everything just a set of unrelated spontaneous events
"Hello Mister deep and mysterious!
Where have you been?"
Said a hand waving in front of my face
After retreating I saw her face
Whenever we're together this seems to happen
Its becoming a habit
But how can...

One Mic.
All I need is one mic,
One beat,
One Stage,
One breath,
And One ear
To do just one verb-
Verbalize my lifes one purpose
In more than just one word
Over One mic
In one arm I bring with me just one burden
ON the other I wear this one curse
The weight of either
Is even
Its hard to say what's worse
Hard to say which hurts
More, or which to work through first
less than one answer
More than one question
Each eye sheds one tear
The blood that the soul bleeds
From wounds...

Man, Blood, Diamonds and the Kingdom
NB: This is a rather long write folks, so if you do make it to the end I hope it would have been worth the read...
Opening my eyes
Lifeless
Silently analysing the world where I...
Was raised to be a man
Scars of past battles carved into my flesh
I've been cursed to wear them forever
Almost As if memories of those battles
Is not a large enough burden to bear
This time though the siege is unrelenting
Overpowered and out numbered by the demons
Weaker and weaker, every blow hits deeper and deeper
Surrounded, the onslaught is brutal,...

THE New World Order
For many centuries the earth was ruled
By some group or individual
Romans, Churches, Kings and Emperors clutched onto seats of power
Oppressing the masses in some manner or the other
The 20th Century dawned
Hope tricked through each of the earths four corners
Cause the people sensed that this would be the modern age
Where the people could be elevated as equals no longer slaves
Indeed change was forth coming
However the debate on who would lead us
Ended in a world war, twice. Again at the expense of us
Only for it to end in a stalemate, cue...

A parable concerning Love
Love is deep. The depths of which we all seek to reach.
But its not just a single pit for one to blindly fall into.
No! its a complex network of tributaries,
Which inter-weave through two heart sized labyrinths.
Too Many angles and levels to explore infact.
Near misses of past
A couple of near connections.
But never a perfect match.
Each of us harbour scars from the knife,
Of a scorned love. One which cut us deeply inside.
But we seek love still, as if it never did cut with a knife.
The truth is, love is the currency of life...

a beautiful, deranged mind...
Hundreds of little babbling voices in my head.
All wrestling for my span of attention.
Each one bringing his argument forth.
To convince me of why his idea aught to become alpha thought.
Its a melting pot rift with would be thoughts.
Inner demons stir up the concoction.
Not satisfied still, they fill it up some more.
Till the contents spill over. In doing so, impeding my speed of talk.
Faster and faster I speak, becoming pressed for thought.
That's why my dialect comes across as hasty and incoherent.

Nelson Mandela- The Eulogy
God bless Africa, I am a son of these sands. Sacred and old.
Sands which elegantly drape the sahara in robes of gold
Passive and calm though
Radiating from the sweltering eye of Apollo
These are the sands which ground my roots
Feeding my family tree from the foot
Indeed My forefathers were her seeds too
Often ploughing through the farms just to earn a plate of food
Therein lies the irony of a paradox
Mama Africa! Within her bosom lies sufficient nourishment for her offspring
But instead my labour is reimbursed by way of a...

Truth in Treason
Happy Birthday echoed in Caps lock all around the room
Faces of kin all sharing in the celebratory mood
Toasts of honour flowed from champagne glasses too
Speeches and rekindled tales of old met bursts of laughter from a few
But I wasn't buying the hype, from behind the shadows I stood and looked
At the head of the table sat my mother
A place Reserved only for kings, queens and quests of honour
All the above is exactly what she was
The birthday girl, on that day no person alive could be seated any higher above
Dressed in robes befitting...

Long Lost Friend...
Its been a long while
Since we got to kick it and spend some time
Its easy to blame it on the day to day monotony of life
But harder still to admit to a neglected relationship
But before we plunge so deep
How have you been
I wanna say I miss you but I don't wanna seam so weak
I've always wondered about your well-being
Often Half heartedly reaching for the phone Its just my pride wouldn't let me
Oh word you been good
Yeah I'd say the same for me too
If you don't mind me asking you
The undertone in your voice raise an alarm bell or two...

As a single man.
Lord knows my inner pleas
My yearnings for a abundant life and meaning
Which will hopefully make a life one worth living
And quieten the silent mockings echoing from my inner demons
Everyday seems about the same as the last
Monotony dictating every thought and action
A devote slave to routine wondering a predefined path
Quietly holding a candle of hope of some day finding his other half
I did love
Once
I reminisce still
Deeper yet, I reminisce still...
Holding hands as we walk
Giggling and stumbling through the mall
After...

Slippin'
I'm slippin, I'm falling, I can't get up
I said, I'm slippin. I'm falling. I can't get up.
Even though I'm slippin and falling, I know I got to get up
Cause its the end of the road if I don't get up
Screaming like a sanctified demon
Screaming like a soul gnashing his teeth
Screaming like it was scorching in the belly of the beast
Screaming,
To be freed...
Freed, from his prison
SCREAMING!!!
Screaming...for help, can you hear him?
Arched over above the thirst chapped soil on buckled knees
Bones and flesh give way...
