LOVE POEM

Expectations
I remember the first night
You stayed in my arms.
You teased about being
A midnight disappearing act.
"I've done it before,
More times than not."
And panic flashed on my face
But you laughed, pulled me in,
Whispered loud enough to quiet me,
"Don't worry,
For you I'll stay."
My cheeks flushed bright pink
As I turned my head from you.
Cause I thought maybe you meant it.
Now here I am, falling.
You were by my side in the beginning
But, oh darling, where are you now?

Reformation
I've never been the type to stand and fight,
Rather spread my wings and take to flight.
But something about you keeps me here
Though what it is just isn't clear.
And I've been trying to find a way to say
That you make me want to stay.
It's just hard to let go of my past
When that's all that I've known to last.
But for you I promise to try
'Cause you're my favorite lullaby
And I can't live without you.
I don't think I'd know what to do.
So come flight or fight,
Don't close your eyes.
I'm still in sight.

Daddy's Little Shotgun Girl
He came in a little after two.
The smell of sin and whiskey in the air,
A slight musk of salt from a one night hussy.
She gave him a chance,
He gave her blank looks and flat answers
So down came the shotgun,
Pointed and aimed straight.
Two quick shots to the ceiling,
One long shot to the heart
'Cause Daddy taught her well.
"The only good heart is a quiet heart
All the rest only leave you broken."
She didn't forget what he said.
And Little girls don't miss
When there's a shot of pain in the glass
And revenge on her breath.

Angel Wings
The silence falls between us.
"I'm scared," she breathes
And I shake out my words.
"I know."
It's all I can say.
"It'll be okay."
"And if it's not?"
We've been saying the same words,
Trading them back and forth,
For most of the night now.
I've got a million thoughts
But I don't give them away.
I've never heard a phone ring like that.
First time out and I knew, I could feel,
Something wasn't right.
She was crying before "hello".
"I'm...

Daddy's Song
One stray tear rolls down her cheek
And in a second it's gone
Because she tries so hard to be strong,
Biting back her tongue,
To keep anyone from seeing
That after all this time
The pain still holds her.
She thinks I can't see
When that song comes on
If he's brought up
Those days she swears
She can hear him again,
That fire of hope,
Burning inside a forest
Drenched quickly by disappointment
Because this isn't that minute
She's spent years praying for
I know she'd give everything
A thousand times over
To have him hold...
And in a second it's gone
Because she tries so hard to be strong,

To keep anyone from seeing
That after all this time

Last Chance Moon
"When you feel like crying and all hope is lost
Just look to the moon hanging high in the sky
If you look there and close your eyes
I'll be standing next to you when they open."
So I stood alone in a field of stars
And stared at the night for a time then squeezed real tight,
Wishing with everything I had for a chance come true
But her face never came beside me.
Left to myself, in a fit of despair, I grabbed the moon
And I yanked it from high above.
If it wouldn't grant magic what good was it to the world?
Pretty lights just...

I've been trying to find a way
To escape the nightmares
Blackening my brightest days.
If you could just take my hands,
Walk with me a while in this dreary fog
An hour with you, that's all I need
To make the clouds take shape again
Bringing happiness back 'round.

Broken Wings
She's like an angel sent from the stars
Wish I could hold back her wings,
Keep her halo from sight,
A heart like that scares this black world
Somedays I just want to wrap her up
Wipe her tears and hide her beauty

Love Me Forever
The things I've done in the past?
That was the old me,
The girl standing here now is who I am.
I know she looks the same
And walks the same, talks the same
But she's not the same.
'Cause this time around I've got you.
To pick me up when I've fallen;
To put me back together when I've broken;
To love me with to your last breath.

Mistaken
Does it ever cross your mind
How your words make me feel?
Do you ever stop to see the lashes
They've thrown across my heart?
I'm finally starting to see
Exactly what I meant to you.
Guess things weren't quite
What I always thought they were;
Some days I'd rather just pretend
Make this more than it was
Until now I even believed it.
And, yes, I know it wasn't everything
I tried to make it out to be
But I still never imagined
How little I meant at all.
Silly girl, same ol' boy
I'll just add our story
With the other endings...

Forget Me Not
It's been so long.
I thought I was finally doing good
Such a time since any tears fell for you.
Because I refuse to be the one
Who gives in again.
I refuse to let your memory haunt me
No longer letting you break me.
Once a time ago, maybe
But by now that time's past gone.
This time won't let myself fall
Back into our old memories
'Cause I still remember how it feels
To watch you when you go.
For once I just want to be strong
To be the one to say 'enough'
Because even though you're gone
I still can't move on ...

Broken
You know....I can't remember
If I've ever hated anyone
The way you've made me hate you.
I hate you for being the one thing
I can't get away from
Nomatter how hard I try.
I should hate you for so many other reasons.
For leaving me alone in the rain
With no explanation for your leaving.
There's no need for these tears that are falling.
I want to give them back to you
But I wonder if you could even take them.
Can you cry at my memory?
If it was the one thing that could free me
