POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am always writing. I have journals and notebooks strewn about my house, never far from reach when the urge to write hits. I usually don't share what I write but, hey, it's the end of the world right? ;)
Last Chance
She offers her hand
It's his last chance to take it,
to go dance with her.
She's come to him before
but he declined,
looked away,
pretended he didn't see her.
She smiles,
hopeful,
beautiful.
Her eye alight,
she offers him another chance
to dance.
One last chance.
He can't see behind her eyes,
how her mind is racing.
her heart flying,
how her hands shake just a little.
He doesn't see the pain behind her smile,
hear her heart pleading with him.
Take her hand.
Go with her.
See...

The Secret
While on the phone with a friend,
we talked for hours on end.
We talked about everything
and nothing.
I was lulled into a safe state,
but then I slipped and mentioned
something I never tell.
The one secret I have buried.
It popped into my head,
strong,
forceful,
invasive...
unwanted.
Like the actions that caused the memory to come into existence.
It all came pouring back.
Helpless,
immobile,
frozen.
The reason I can't stand to feel trapped,
unable to move,
confined spaces.
That was the...

The Edge
When you're on the edge for too long,
it's easy to fall.
Balance failing,
strength waning,
you start swaying.
The only warning you have before you start to freefall.
Nothing to catch you,
nothing to save you.
Just endless air.
Stealing breath,
ground rushing toward you too fast.
And then,
crash.
The bottom.
At least now I'm off the ledge.
it's easy to fall.
Balance failing,
strength waning,
you start swaying.
The only warning you have before you start to freefall.
Nothing to catch you,
nothing to save you.
Just endless air.
Stealing breath,

And then,
crash.
The bottom.
At least now I'm off the ledge.

The Last Time
It's sad how we never know when it will be the last time we see someone. You always think you'll see that person again...an optimistic thought. But then you don't. And then it is the last time...or was.. And you think about that time - the last one and the times before it. Whether it was good or bad, reliving the moments until the time was over. You remember their smile, the sound of their voice, their laugh. You remember their hugs and the little nuances...the way they smelled, the way they walked, the way they moved. You replay it all until the details become blurred. The sound of their...

The Funk
Into a funk
I have sunken.
The days,
all the same.
Nothing changes.
Nothing surprises.
Over and over,
all the same.
The monotony is driving me insane.
I fight it,
the insanity.
But maybe I should let it win.
If I did,
it would matter not
the day, the week, the hour.
Simply allow it to devour
the few marbles I have left.
And sink into the other world
inside my head,
where the changes are plenty,
surprises are many
and the adventures never stop.
I have sunken.
The days,
all the same.
Nothing changes.
Nothing surprises.
Over and over,
all the same.
The monotony is driving me insane.

The Man from the Shadows
Heart pounding,
hands shaking,
she watches you in the shadows.
Your figure imposing,
your voice soothing.
She's missed it all.
And when you stare at her,
she feels like you are staring into her soul.
She watches you in the shadows,
afraid to make a move.
Afraid to try again.
Afraid to lose again.
But you asked her to dance,
and she danced with the man from the shadows.
Later, with bodies intertwined,
you poured out your secrets to her.
She says little but absorbs it all.
And when your breath evened,
she...
