POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
I, Panther
Living on the edge,
I sit, I wait
Enjoying the solitude of my aloneness
My senses
attuned to every sound,
Every noise, every jolt or snap of a twig
That hides within the sable abyss
Of my jungle lair
My coat
Sleek and black
Dispels a random raindrop that
Plops softly alongside me,
Lingering for a long moment
Before falling out of sight into
The deep darkness below
My prey
Walks unknowingly below me
Its lips, softly seeking a rare blade
Of absent foliage
not yet tarnished
by the charring
Nepal...
I sit, I wait
Enjoying the solitude of my aloneness
My senses
attuned to every sound,
Every noise, every jolt or snap of a twig
That hides within the sable abyss
Of my jungle lair
My coat

Lingering for a long moment

Zermatt Calling
Where the air is clear
The mountains bright
Stars shine above
Through the night
Filled with promise
Filled with hope
A writer’s dream
To keep afloat
A place of peace
Where no one knows
This lonely girl
No friends or foes
Oh bold big mountain
You draw me in
I return to you
Again, again
I see and feel and hear your cries
Of loneliness in the midnight skies
In the dark I walk the streets
Nothing in the air but my heartbeat
I stare at you and wonder why
You’re all alone in the big dark sky...
The mountains bright
Stars shine above
Through the night
Filled with promise
Filled with hope
A writer’s dream
To keep afloat
A place of peace
Where no one knows
This lonely girl
No friends or foes
Oh bold big mountain
You draw me in
I return to you
Again, again
I see and feel and hear your cries
Of loneliness in the midnight skies
In the dark I walk the streets
Nothing in the air but my heartbeat
I stare at you and wonder why
You’re all alone in the big dark sky...

Flung
Bye
The child said softly
To the porter
His innocence
Made me cry
I yearn to have
Such innocence
Swept from birth
By parents who
Didn’t want another
Annoyance they created
And thrown away with
Random thoughtlessness
Like a dirty used tissue
Flung into a bin
With other bits of trash.
The child said softly
To the porter

Made me cry
I yearn to have
Such innocence
Swept from birth
By parents who
Didn’t want another
Annoyance they created
And thrown away with
Random thoughtlessness
Like a dirty used tissue
Flung into a bin
With other bits of trash.

I’m envious of the hawk
That flies over the Lamy skies
With no cage to hold his
Wandering wings
With no judge to stop him
From his desired flight
Only his will that soars
As the ground grows small
Beneath him
His spirit free of hate
Free of judgment
Free
Only the air sets
His course
Gives him breath
Gives him life
Gives him space
Sets him free
That flies over the Lamy skies
With no cage to hold his
Wandering wings
With no judge to stop him
From his desired flight
Only his will that soars
As the ground grows small
Beneath him
His spirit free of hate
Free of judgment
Free
Only the air sets
His course
Gives him breath
Gives him life
Gives him space
Sets him free

D. Pression
Depression sings to me
Like an annoying neighbor
Calling over the fence.
I ignore you time and time again
But you don’t give up
You don’t go away.
You haunt me day after day
Until
Finally
I give in
And let you have your say.
Like an annoying neighbor
Calling over the fence.
I ignore you time and time again
But you don’t give up
You don’t go away.
You haunt me day after day
Until
Finally
I give in
And let you have your say.

But Home to What
The streets of Paris in the fall
There’s nothing like this
Nothing at all
I walk along the cobblestones
Here alone, so far from home
I had to leave, had to get away
From the dull derision of my days
Now at night I sit
Tired pen in hand
As on the panes, the rain doth hit
The cool fall air
I breathe it in
And think of you, again,
again
There’s nothing like this
Nothing at all
On Paris streets, the rain doth fall
A lonely girl who walks alone
The rain beats down
It calls her home
...

Handprints
Handprints on my arm
my face, my thighs
I deemed back then
I wouldn’t cry
Not since I’ve shed a tear
I would do that, mommy dear
At age three
I wondered why
You’d seem to laugh
If I’d cry
You’d cut my hair
With wicked delight
And then seemed pleased
With my plight
I didn’t know then
Where to turn
I only knew
It wasn’t home
my face, my thighs
I deemed back then
I wouldn’t cry
Not since I’ve shed a tear
I would do that, mommy dear
At age three
I wondered why
You’d seem to laugh
If I’d cry
You’d cut my hair

And then seemed pleased
With my plight
