POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I am. What else it there to say? My likes, dislikes, loves and wishes, mean nothing if I do not acknowledge that I simply am. That I breathe and experience. There is no greater explanation.
Soul Abated
He traded his soul
For a memory long lost
A heart black as coal
To pay all the costs
He took a deep breath
From his final cigarette
Contemplating death
But knowing not even that would let him forget
He flicked the cigarette away
And fixed his eyes on the place
Struggling not to delay
To meet his shame face to face
He walked, head down
Into those trees
The ones that now crowned
His hollow victory
This was where it began
What could have been, now faded
Because pride overran
He stood now, broken...
For a memory long lost
A heart black as coal
To pay all the costs
He took a deep breath
From his final cigarette

But knowing not even that would let him forget
He flicked the cigarette away

Lonely Lullaby
She's holding tight
She's closed her eyes
She cannot fight -
This lonely lullaby
She cannot move
She cannot lie
Its holding tight
Her lonely lullaby
The sound of the clock
That's ticking on
Is begging her to run
Now that the light is gone
And night has overtaken the sun
But she remains
Standing and waiting still
Beneath a starless sky
With a heart that's begun to fill
With a lonely lullaby
Tears are falling down her face
In the aging night
She prays for him to be found
Come morning light...
She's closed her eyes
She cannot fight -
This lonely lullaby

Her lonely lullaby
The sound of the clock

For This and For That
I am starving
For hello and not for goodby
And praying for truth and not for a lie
I've heard it before, but cannot believe
Those simple words, “I will never leave”
I am starving
For love and not for a friend
And looking for real and not for pretend
I'm tired of the lonely and the cold
And wish I could be bright and be bold
I am starving
For laughter and not for gloom
And craving for someone to ask and not to assume
I wish someone would see that despite that I'm strong
I haven't yet found where it is I belong
I am...
For hello and not for goodby
And praying for truth and not for a lie

A Promising Lie
I promise
I promise.”
Came his sweet lie,
“To love you and hold you
Till the day that I die.”
But goodbye came with wordless abuse.
His silence the proof of the love he would choose.
“I'm sorry
I'm sorry”
I've heared that before.
If only, if only
You could have loved me more.
But I'm done with the hurt, I'm done with the pain,
Now my only wish is to forget I ever knew your name.
I promise.”

The Lady in Gray
There is a Lady,
All covered in gray,
That walks through the garden
And sleeps on the bay
The flowers all love her,
The birds sing for her to stay,
And night always waits,
To hold the Lady in gray
She takes many forms -
A maiden by day,
But once the sun set,
She becomes a nightingale fey
She sings the tune sweet,
To draw them all near
The strong mighty men
That she once had so feared
And once they all gathered,
Beneath the moonlight,
The sweet nightingale, ...

Voices and Vines
Wait, Wait for the bell,
Wait for it's crying straight from hell.
Beseech it and keep it but never fall,
to its ever persistent, drudging call.
Lay flat, lay still, don't come too near,
for the darkness in your heart it will surely mirror.
Once ensnared, you will never be free,
Unlike the butterflies on the early summer breeze.
But bound to a death you will never escape,
To a sweet singing voice and a dark haunting cape.
They seem so sweet, the voice and the vines,
But their simple complexion is to hide their signs.
You...

Elemental Lessons
I was told to find nobility,
I was told to seek sincerity.
These were my teachers,
The world's secret keepers.
The river taught me what it was to strive,
The river taught me what it was to thrive.
The river taught me what it was to bleed;
Reveling in life like the flow of earth to sea.
Fire taught me what it was to be cold,
Fire taught me what it was to be bold.
Fire taught me what it was to be loved,
Embraced in full by life's soft judge.
The canyon taught me what it was to be wrong,
The canyon taught me what it was to be...

Circus Waiting
Illusion, asleep,
Reality - the soldiers of duty forced,
As they march, march, madness across the page of light.
Angry, violent, violent, relentless death
As the packing bull elephant – roaring, lingering victorious.
The hungry,
Circling, rounding, blunt, rewinding
What would push them;
Reading, flying, searching to that underground world?
The brain ravaging space, curving the circus waiting.

Faded Ties
Moonlight, Moonlight,
In the sky,
Shimer, shading,
Whispered lie,
Hollow aches,
Tease broken wings to fly.
Moonlight, Moonlight,
In the sky,
Filter, flowing,
Harkened knowing,
Binding darkened shadows,
With brittle, fading ties.

Whispered lie,
Hollow aches,
Tease broken wings to fly.

Harkened knowing,

Do You Care?
Why do you care
What I do with my life?
Why do you care
Who I am?
As you sit in a corner crying,
My heart is slowly dying;
Free yourself, pick me up,
And love me till my soul begins its flying.
What I do with my life?
Why do you care
Who I am?
As you sit in a corner crying,
My heart is slowly dying;
Free yourself, pick me up,
And love me till my soul begins its flying.

Blind Breath
I am alive and breathing,
My heart is barely beating,
As the room fills with hushed whispers,
For I lay with breath not seeing.
My heart is barely beating,
As the room fills with hushed whispers,
For I lay with breath not seeing.

In Love With a Ghost
My heart is a haunted place,
Though once it was not,
It was full of innocence and play,
Not understanding what it sought.
And then one summer, I met him,
He who dressed himself with charm,
And I was so hurt for love,
That I did not see the harm.
But it was hidden in the shadows,
In the splendor of his eyes,
And with such beautiful masks,
He decorated hideous lies.
I did not understand that I had invited
My once trusting heart to be haunted,
But the knowledge came in a rush,
