POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have been writing poetry for about 15 years. Most of my poems express my inner feelings and emotions, and are an intimate baring of my soul, although I write some of a more humourous nature.
Dancing upon the clouds
Come stand with me on the cliffs in early morning
As the sun rises over the edge of the world,
And watch as the sea birds leave their rocky perches
High up on the crags, to soar out over the sea,
Floating in wide lazy circles on the warming air,
Or skimming just above the waves, free as the wind,
And tell me that you do not envy their freedom,
Unbound by those forces that bind us to the ground.
Or again at noonday sitting in the garden
Listening to the busy chatter of sparrows
Unseen in the bushes, yet suddenly to dart
From their hiding...

Walking among daffodils
It was a day just like today, I remember,
The beginning of spring, a day of fresh beauty.
Vanished were the harsh and bitter winds of winter.
The landscape dull and heavy under a sullen sky,
And the very earth hard like iron, cold and dead.
But that was all forgotten now, just like a dream
From which we had awakened into a new world,
Redolent with hope and promise, lifting our hearts,
And filling us with untold joy and happiness.
Such sweet memories of youth, so long ago now,
And yet I can recall it now, as bright and clear
As if it were...

To my wife as she prepares for bed
As I watched you tonight in the darkness
In the warm intimacy of our room,
Once more seduced by the way you undress
And the scent of your feminine perfume,
Performing those essential nightly rites,
Familiar from years of married life,
I thought that alone of the world's delights,
The vision of you, lover and dear wife
Preparing yourself to come to my bed,
Will never fail my senses to inspire;
For only when artifice is removed,
And beauty is unmasked to set afire
The flagging pulse, in that quickening
Of mortal flesh, love finds eternal...

Hothouse Love
What know we of love who this hothouse share,
Wandering in lush meadows of desire,
In search of the thrill of each new affair,
Driven by a relentless inner fire?
Such is our debauched proclivity,
That only orgasmic release can slake
Our lascivious promiscuity,
As in each new carnal pleasure we partake.
Daily seeking new erotic delights,
We find temporary satiation
In ever darker orgiastic rites,
To satisfy our lustful addiction.
But fate can interfere in our affairs
And love may sometimes catch us unawares.

True Love
Inexorably I can feel myself falling
Into the darkness that always lurks, sinister
And out of sight, there at the corner of my mind,
A place of demons and unnameable horrors,
Where my worst nightmares wait, eager to claim my soul.
Like a condemned man on the way to the scaffold,
I see the leering faces of the mocking crowd
Calling on me to save myself, their jeering taunts
The accompaniment to my headlong descent
Into madness, the fate I so richly deserve,
The just reward of a faithless friend, betrayer
Of the one who so willingly gave me...

Transformed by Love
As we lie here in the afterglow of loving,
With your head upon my shoulder, and your soft breasts
Warm against my side, I gaze again in wonder,
Upon your lovely face, so peaceful in repose,
Remembering the many times before tonight
When we have danced among the stars in ecstasy,
Our perfectly matched spirits soaring high above,
As our bodies melt and fuse into each other
In the heat of rapture, our mutual passion
The natural expression of eternal love.
So familiar, yet each time as wonderful
As the first time you so willingly surrendered

Love Rekindled
As the years roll by, even in the closest marriage,
It is easy to become complacent, and careless,
Taking love for granted, forgetting those little things,
Touches of affection, the morning kiss, a quick hug,
Simple things that help keep a relationship alive.
So it is good to escape for a while, free from cares,
Away from the hurly burly of everyday life,
Just the two of us together without distractions,
A time to talk and laugh, or just to play silly games,
A time apart to rekindle the fires of first love.
Mindful of the danger of...

Dreams of Love
In my dreams you come to me, my darling,
Every night without fail, you are there,
Slipping quietly under the covers
To lie beside me in my lonely bed,
Waiting and expectant, ready for love.
Your soft breasts nestle warm and inviting
In the hollow of my back, perfectly
Designed to arouse me from my slumbers,
Sending their message of promised pleasure
Along my tingling nerves from where they rest
Down into my loins, to where my manhood,
Begins to stir in anticipation ...

Morning Love
Every dawn I dream of you my sweet lover,
Cuddling naked beside me in the warm darkness,
Your body soft against mine, drifting in blissful languor,
That delicious state of consummated desire,
Following a night of ecstatic lovemaking
United in the rapture of mutual love,
Our passion still undimmed despite the passing years.
And in the morning I think of you my darling,
Dreaming of you alongside me in the shower,
My hands exploring the gentle swell of your breasts,
Then tracing a path down the curve of your tummy,

Dreaming of You
Sitting here in my chair, dreaming
Visions of you filling my mind,
I long to be alone with you,
Enfolded in your warm embrace.
I should be hard at work, writing,
But the perfume of your presence
Is just too intoxicating,
Driving all other thoughts away.
I can no longer concentrate,
A divine restlessness grips me,
My breathing quickens with desire,
Remembering those heady nights,
When we lay naked together,
On fire with mutual passion.
Oh my darling I yearn for you,
Sweet memories filling my mind,

Love Reborn
My dearest wife, it has been such a long winter,
Hard and bitter, draining the heart and soul of hope.
It has been doubly hard for you, so much sadness,
Almost too much to bear, with the illness of friends,
And frozen pipes, and the children's difficulties,
Such a long catalogue of woes, you look so tired,
New lines of care on your face, and fresh streaks of grey
Staining the golden beauty of your lovely hair.
I am bitterly aware of my shortcomings
As a husband, so often away, leaving you
To cope with the house alone, and worse, so distant...
Hard and bitter, draining the heart and soul of hope.

Like Thistledown
Day and night I sit pensive and alone,
Seeking just the right words my love to tell,
Words that I hope will melt a heart of stone,
And there in that heart find a place to dwell.
But my labours are all in vain I fear
And like thistle down on a summer day,
From view my verse will too soon disappear,
And on the fickle wind be blown away.
While butterflies have their day in the sun,
My words are like those creatures of the night,
Whose unseen lives are all too quickly spun,
Destined never to sparkle in the light.
Hopeless though my foolish...
