Beneath the relationship’s weight he falters and strains,
Assuming a miserable burden, laden in a constant Gregorian chant.
Looming large, his presence, for her, a heavy hindrance,
An added load to her daily trials, and his.
Amid this suffocating hold he craves their liberation,
To discover a route where freedom's light flickers,
To demonstrate beyond this oppressive form's span
There resides a spirit sturdy, resilient, sovereign.

In Durham City, an old chap did reside,
His top knot perched high, impossible to hide.
With hair so thin, it seemed almost a prank,
But he flaunted that knot, like a captain his plank.
As folks passed him by, they couldn't help but stare,
At the audacious style of his thinning hair.
Whispers and giggles followed him around,
Yet he grinned right back, with a mischievous sound.

Across the table

The table stands as a symbolic barrier to me - I am told one I can’t easily come across,
It represents a daunting gap they say I must bridge, but it’s difficult for me.
A challenge is thrown my way, urging a reversal of the expected narrative,
Questioning the necessity, I stubbornly resist the constraints imposed by rigid expectations.
The response reverberates with the reinforcement of stereotypes,

A paradox in each lesson learned:
If all were right, no shadows cast,
Would we truly cherish moments past?
For sweetness blooms in contrast's embrace,

In cloistered halls where wisdom's light does gleam,
A nun bestowed a gift, a sacred dream,
A crucifix of wood, a symbol pure,
To bless and guide, its meaning to endure.
With tender words, she bid me go,
To priest's abode, where blessings freely flow,
I took the cross, entrusted in my care,
To seek the priest's solemn blessing there.
Returned, the crucifix, now blessed anew,
I placed it in the nun's kind hands, her due.
