POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Hi all, Im a spoken word poet, writer and producer currently making somewhat of a life out of poetry in Melbourne Australia. Was looking for an online community and this seems amazing!
The Nevel
We had been sitting in the sauna side by side for about 20 minutes,
me and an old man.
He turned to me with the slow approach a bead of sweat rolls with and asked me where I was from.
I answered, "Country Vic" which is my go to response for city people inquiring.
He seemed amused at this and said he was from Aqaba, Israel.
I told him my folks lived on the Jordan-Israel border just after the 6 day war, which is my go to response for people from Israel.
I tried to think of other things I knew about Israel or Hebrew words or something, but apart from...

My best friend to no end
My narcissism looks better naked in the mirror than yours.
My narcissism sleeps with a more beautiful me.
My narcissism gets bored of your war stories that don’t end in the ending of you.
My narcissism wears suits to potluck lunches and looks up the word egocentric on a smartphone at the table, before using it casually and incorrectly in a sentence.
“The chicken was splendid but the potatoes were eccentric;” it ignores the awkward silences it creates.
My narcissism chats with my need for validation and convinces it – this is not okay to say publicly if it...

Mondays. are. my. favourite. time. of. year.
There are 3 empty bowls of cereal in my studio at present.
They indicate three separate meals; around them circle wine bottles and crushed jim beam cans.
My walls are littered with quotes from artists, old love letters from people who hate me now and obituaries of rappers who would have probably called me fag.
Sometimes Mondays aren't my favourite time of year, sometimes its too depressing to clean up and feel less surrounded.

This is a recording of the opening poem from a chapbook about travels in Asia I recently released.

I was listening to some dub and just started speaking over it, captured the smiling/reminiscing tone I wanted readers to read.. ahhh but thats the joy of books, its all about the musicality the reader brings. :) New experience for a normal spoken word fella!
Customs:
We hid the movies we made on our phones as draft MMS messages so our partners wouldn’t find them.
The way we smiled in shot together...

Plant ya Feet
This is a little clip.. Its just a affirmation piece I sometimes open shows with or in cyphers etc, really played with the flow and style of the words with this one, to communicate the essential 'find ya rhythm in life first' thought train.. produced by http://skaremedia.com/ hope u enjoy! :)
Words:
So with this life man, whata we really been given
Im finding my inspirations' been swinging, outer-inner
from John Williams to Sublime to Rage against the machine
to Prodigy then to YOU then Tism.. So Iiiiii
Keep on livin' fulla rhythm, spinning thoughts on...

I Use
This is an old shortened version of a piece about coping methods called "I use"... in Aus the National Slam has a 2 minute cut off, (crazy eh?) so kinda edited on the fly to keep the narrative somewhat appealing.. Its an old performance from when I first started Spoken word (got the drunken swagger on to complement it lol).. The real version is here if you care to hear it :)

Mrs Freeman
My history teacher, Mrs Freeman
leant against the staffroom wall
trying to smoke the irony out of her name..
..before she turned to occupy our classroom.
She placed pieces of paper on our desks
about forgotten cultures
forgot to mention the culture
so.. we soon forgot
we watched as a black marker marked our
black history on a white board.. bored
and reality only began for us
when a hand similiar to hers
one that highlighted only 8 lines of dark history
beat a friend senseless on the bus to the city...
