POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Every once in a while, inspiration will come to me and make me start writing. Even though I do not write very often, I could not do without it.
In the Shade of the Towers
The front door wobbled open.
As Niyah shuffled out a warm ocean breeze streamed through the living room.
She glanced at her phone: 19:15, and stepped onto the sidewalk.
LA was huge and full of life. A kaleidoscope of lights and shadows glossed over her eyes; smells and sounds, painted the city.
Closing her eyes, Niyah drew a deep breath and exhaled.
...
She hated Los Angeles. Everything about the city made her brackish, and she couldn't stand it. The people, the traffic, the drivers, the accents,
the list went on and on growing...

Crap Head
YOU IDIOT!!!” roared Keren.
It probably wasn’t the best idea.
Like giving a baby a knife.
A huge knife.
A huge sharp poisonous knife imbued with mystical powers
beheld by an ancient race of mysterious warriors known as the NeKazim. They were the most highly evolved Human species the world had ever known. Some sages speak of their origin as being foreign to this planet, yet what is known was that the NeKazim ruled the Earth long before the breakup of Pangaea. Some ancient texts suspect that during the great Zultarian-Proteteous War, the NeKazim detonated a...

In Eulogy for Joe Nemo
Joe Nemo was a man of many words
a master of speech, a champion of dialogue
Joe Nemo always said the right words
and found the right quotes
and grasped your shoulder real tight
and always looked deep in your eyes
like he knew all your secrets
Joe Nemo was a man of many words, but that's just what he was.
words and letters
and number and figures
meaningless sounds
meaningless meanings
When Joe Nemo died, hundreds of people crammed into the small synagogue where he once secretly confessed
to skipping Yom Kippur entirely
There...

Under the Veil
I thought I saw
What I thought I knew
What I thought was real
What I thought was good
But what I thought
was just a thought
And that's all it was
just a notion
just a guess
a shot in the dark
I think, I thought
I say, I do
She says, She needs
He knows, He tries
But things we think
and say
and...

Can You Spot the Difference?
blue chirps in blue mornings from blue blue birds in blue trees
blue coffee in blue cups
blue yawns, blue toast
blue suits, blue roads
blue ink on blue papers from a blue boss wearing a blue tie over his blue shirt, giving you that blue smug
blue lunch, blue phones
blue clocks, blue homes
blue beer from blue bottles made with blue hops from blue factories in little blue countrysides
blue tabs, blue cash
blue cabs, blue crash
blue lies from blue lips
blue face on blue floor
blue laughs, blue sighs
blue lights and blue sounds from...

Jerusalem, O Jerusalem!
I promise you,
I'll be back again
I'll come again for you some day
I promise you
I've promised you
that I'll comeback for you again
My Golden Lady
Ancient walls surround
this golden city of mine
Scared city,
smooth stones pave the way of the righteous
From all creeds come to holy houses of hope
to find the promise of Gods
I'll come back to you
to the crown of the world
perched atop a mountain
between forests of enlightenment
and badlands of truth
pilgrims guide the light of immortal flames...

The Beat (Remains)
To live
To die
To laugh
To cry
From day to night
From death to light
From summer
To fall
Winter ends all
But neither snow
or wind
or the winter's
bitter sting
can keep Gaia's ring
The life
The spring
The gunshot ring
The knife
The plunge
The drip of Morphine
The breath
The end
The final cut-scene
The beat is strong
The beat remains
as Gaia dances
through the smoke and haze
The beat goes on
Marching in rhythm
The beat remains
And the cycle...
To die

Snake in the grass
slides stealthily
slippery through
the dry
c u d

leaves
slithering its way
secretly 'round
through the red forest
with red leaves
and red trees
and red tape
He slithers quietly
Creeps and crawls
on his belly
so

through Ferguson
he slides
Scraping the scab
of a fresh, infected wound
Stinging it
with his tail
his tongue
Snake in the grass
Slides smoothly...

Sins of Our Fathers
Here I am
Ready to give
Ready to get
Here I stand
on legs and feet
Flesh
and
blood
and
bone
just like they were
Just like they are
playing with fire
old habits do die hard
There they were
Ready to get
But never to give
Sitting atop the bodies
of their own
Those who do not believe
must die
There they came
Ready to give
in order to get
With minds wide open
they took down the Sun
and ofered its throne to another
not everything that seems is so
...

Relatively Speaking
"Everything's relative" they say
And from way up here
Why would you care?
The mighty oak and the sturdy pine
The fields of blooming flowers and the green pastures of grass
The rich brown soil and the rolling hills stained with jagged stones
Concrete cities that spill out into the valley below
A maze of houses and roads built by human hands
The mothers and fathers working in the stores
and the school children skipping back home
The hopes and dreams of a people
the strife and struggle
the battles
and the losses...

The Greatest Lie of All
Love is the greatest lie of all
It is pushed on to us from the very first moments of existence
To the last moments of life
And even in death
We can't get a break
The pastor says love is eternal
The rabbi says love is tradition
The imam says love is paradise
And the basketful of others declare that love is immortal
That love will stand the test of time
as if it's some giant monument made of steel
But it isn't a monument
Love is a word
And words sell
They tell you love is a bag of Lay's potato chips
and can...
