Nobody seemed to notice.
Keep the latch closed
Use the old stick
To keep the cold out
People say a lot of things
Most of which they never meant
I used to say a lot of things
Carefully selected
As to not upset you
I try to keep it shut, these days
But my lock is weak

The Blue Rose
I am the empty bean shell
I am the cucumber that got too cold
I am the tomato that didn't get enough water
My garden is excellent in the spring
My garden is mediocre in the summer
My garden is forgotten by fall
Our pantry is full
Our cupboards are overloaded
The family is fed
The family is tired
I wish i knew what I was doing
We knew what was coming
We knew our fate
I didn't

What I do
What I did
Has nothing to do with
Any of you
It stems from my own failings
Failings as a son, brother
Friend, lover
I could not hide these from myself
Perhaps to any of you I could
We'd meet
We'd have connections
These are but on the surface
They do not run deep and
Never have
I cannot hide these failings
From the watchful eye
I have tried

Lighthouses
I've been out to sea
With no landmarks to guide me
I've no beacon
No chart nor compass
Only you
I feel your presence
I know you're there
Its only a matter of time
Before I run aground and
I'm no longer able to sail
Past the unhappiness
Past the trouble ahead
I raise my sail
Prepare to swim to shore
Only to find
Emptiness
To find that none live here
None would want to be here
With no landmarks to guide me

The last ember went out
The cut maple has greyed in the sun
In the garden
A dream was overgrown by weeds
I wanted to spend more time together
I wanted to tell you how I felt around you
Instead I left
Insisting
It was only a matter of delusion
Yet continuing on my path
Trampling through dense thicket
I must find what I'm searching for
Perhaps you held it in your hands
The entire time
The cut maple has greyed in the sun

Apple Butter
I do not know
Who else to ask through the
Layers of smoke and haze
How do I let this go?
How do I stop the drowning of thoughts
The need to burn away a feeling
Only to exhale regrets
Only to pay for it in the morning
When did it all become so painful?
Why is this all I can feel?
The outer shell is all stone
"I'm okay, I'm fine"
Not that you really cared
To begin with
Just the idea of caring
Was enough to feel good
About yourself
Who else to ask through the
