POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
My education and work experiences revolved around mathematical figures and computations. Never in my life did I imagine that I could write beautiful poetry; one that comes from the heart. "The Fire Within" is my first published book.
The Tree of Life
There’s no other tree I see
so mighty as a coconut tree
It’s trunk so slender and so high
it could almost reach the sky
Some people consider it lovely
Its beauty competes with the sea
How I miss your sweet juice (coconut)
that quenches my thirst on summer days
and relieve my hangover
from drinking “fool-proof rum”
How I miss your tender white meat (coconut)
that nourishes my starving body
So delicate as Snow White’s skin,
which soothes and eases my pain
There’s no other tree I see
so useful as a coconut tree

Save the Rainy Days in My Dreams
We can’t really worry about something
That hasn’t happened yet on this Earth
Doing so would be futile and meaningless
There comes a time when we are fully laden
With burdens of emptiness and hopelessness
Trying to pick up the pieces of broken dreams
When all that was left were shattered dreams
We were really truly wrong about something
Thinking about our struggles—so meaningless
When all we can think of is our hopelessness
For nothing really matters on this forsaken Earth
As long as our dirty large pockets are fully laden
Trying to...

Innocence Lost, Paradise Regained
(Sestina)
Sol was forgiving in this beautiful island
Where you first saw the light of day
And heard the chirping of birds at dawn
Loud cries competed with the sound of waves
As they tirelessly kiss the morning shores
Erasing your first footprints in the sands
Early childhood spent playfully on the sands
Picking up shells, chasing and riding the waves
Greeting your weary father at break of dawn
Who spent the night away from the shores
Trying to make a living each passing day
From the bounty of this peaceful island

Peace Through Poetry
(Sestina)
From a distant future lay the remnants
Of a once proud and mighty civilization
Safe haven of warmongers and merchants
Of death—trying to elude their fair share
To a place where peace is a breath of fresh air
And nanotechnology runs the new frontier
Molecular states of matter altered on this frontier
Quantum mechanical effects hardly visible in the air
Atoms in this quantum-realm scale will have its share
Whose common trait is size—in this new civilization
A far cry from old and what’s left are remnants ...

Mere Words...
It’s been a year now
since I joined DUP
Mere words are not enough
to show my gratitude
to all my poetic friends:
Gypsy Red, Grace, Kitty,
MadameLavander, Magdalena,
Your poetic geniuses seep
Like Rain courting my heart…
Peace through poetry
says my brother Strider,
Fuck that Craic and Evan would say,
Hear the Soulful rendition
of brother JazzManor
It could tame even the wildest blocat…
All of you have played a role
to make this diamond
in the rough—a precious gem
To all those that I intentionally left out

Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Many dreams are woven in this beautiful place
A place so charming, lovers are drawn to the water
Watching the sun slowly change the color of its face
As it gets dark and colder, the lovers become hotter
The setting sun is always a lovely, romantic sight
For lovers: local and foreign tourists alike
Surprised to know it’s now an urban blight
Frequented by people whom you may dislike
Pimps and prostitutes lined the boulevard
Where young lovers used to kiss and dream
About having their own house with a backyard
While sharing and licking a melting...

One Cold Summer
(Inspired by: Bukowski's Cold Summer and As The Sparrow)
It was a cold mid-July morning
I was about to leave the house
when a sparrow dived,
and messed up
my car window with
its unholy shit…
“Don’t leave yet…
I need a fucking
drink,” the sparrow spoke
to me,
sitting on the
ledge
of my car door.
“Don’t you remember
me?
I’m Charles…
upon my death
my spirit was in limbo,
until the gods put me
into this
house sparrow.”...

Serenity Loves Serenity
Silent cries of the wild
Echo in the distant jungle
Rustling flow of the nearby brook
Equally soothing to my weary soul
Nocturnal creatures swarm the sky
Intercepting the nightingale’s cry
Tonight would be peaceful and calm
Yesterday remained a melodic harmony
Living in solace with Mother Nature
Overlooking the clear, blue ocean
Vast source of food and livelihood
Evergreen forests with rich fauna
Sojourn for the weak and weary souls
Solitude keeps me company
Every time you’ve gone away
Recapturing the memories
Each of...

Yellow is the Color of Blood
Yellow became the color of a nation
when one of its favorite son was slain
Shot in the head, body on the tarmac,
never given a chance to have his voice heard
Conspiracy theories abound from within,
as to whom the real trigger man was
Controversial investigations produced
no definitive results, only scapegoats.
Yellow ribbons tied on trees and houses
kinda reminded me of a popular song—
only to show love of the whole nation
Miniature yellow ribbons on buttons
became favorite car emblems, as well
Yellow tee-shirts flooded...

There's a Calm Before the Storm
Flood waters from June monsoon rains
Slowly receding, giving way to a fresh lake
The weather was inviting, so we set-off to sail
On a catamaran, one Saturday afternoon
To a nearby island resort full of wonders
Promising a night of endless fun and excitement
Halfway through the voyage, lightning struck
From nowhere it came, hitting the boat’s mast
Roaring thunder drowned our frantic call for help
On a CB radio, but no answer on the receiver
As there was no signal, cell phones were useless
Fear slowly crept upon our restless minds ...
