POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Poetry is my voice for change. I have 12 kids with my husband of 22 years. The poetry I write comes from books, movies, and most of all, from my life. Finally squeezed out of me by my nature like a long held breath.
Counterfeit or Companion
I heard you say it
You make me feel lonely
I thought that I fit
Your one and the only
Standing by your side
As though carved from your bone
But when my thoughts slide
You say you're standing alone
What about all the big love deeds
Or all the constant things
Are you swallowed by the weeds
Away from what my heart brings
Is it that you still don't know
Why I seem unreliable
Sparking doubts even though
To you I am pliable
Am I caught in hysteria
Who programmed the thought

Yoked with You
When we wed I only knew
It felt right to be with you
It's true our faith was the same
What we were playing was no game
I trusted my own father's sign
That you could really be mine
And I be yoked with you
Equally yoked with you
Beliefs, maturity in like faith
Supposedly measure the quality of fate
Instead with you a Christian baby
A man with one year's faith, maybe
And me with five years or more
Third generation through faith's door
You, divorced, past sins purging
Me, an unkissed virgin
You jamming to...

Having Babies
Tender age of eighteen
First baby from love’s song
She fit in right between
As we walked along
Second baby coming
A great new adventure
A new way of summing
With olives on her fingers
Two were an active handful
So we thought of waiting
Though we were quite careful
The gift was not abating
And soon a little brother
When I was twenty one
Would come join the others
And even then not done
We had to hope and pray
There would be a number four
Two and a half years later ...

Idea's Shelter
Without a tongue to mother us
We have no shelter in mind or mouth
For ideas to make our fuss
We'd be the least of beasts from north to south
Without our mother tongue to express how we feel separate
How could we explain how we are altogether desperate?
Or give our eloquent praise to what inspires
Or project our hope to what transpires
But from the rising sun
To the setting west
Human language fun
Makes us noblest and best
Rudimentary communication
Is part of each animal nation
Yet we human creatures

The Conversation
In figures of speech the writer uses
Images and symbols as a response
To the world of stories that amuses
In familiarity that haunts
Staring darkly and deeply
Or cheerily and lightly
A telescope that cheaply
Revealing so brightly
A startling alien face
Describing in allegory
Divine soul of the human race
A never ending creation story
Images and symbols as a response
To the world of stories that amuses
In familiarity that haunts
Staring darkly and deeply
Or cheerily and lightly
A telescope that cheaply
Revealing so brightly
A startling alien face
Describing in allegory
Divine soul of the human race
A never ending creation story
