I finally dreamed about you
Soft sheets and sunlight

Doesn't matter in this dream

My sleep comes
So much faster than before

Fortress
My fingers hover just above your wrist
Longing to touch, to trace
But It’s just a mirage with a twist
I’m really sitting here at my place
I’m breathing in
And I’m breathing out
Watching hands
that aren’t your hands
March in circles on a face
that isn’t your face
And it's killing me

Cause I wish you were here

But we can make a fortress

Synesthesia
She’s magic and doesn’t even know it
Filtering everything through aqua eyes
Then creating art that defies the odds
All the while seeing the impossible things
In everything she reads
Every letter that bleeds
Into rainbows like shiny beads
Every A is red and
Every P is yellow
And all the other letters
In shades of green and blue and violet
She sees so much magic
But sees it only as tragic
So she only paints in gold
The only color that holds
It all in
All her magic

Always Waiting
I saw the moon set
this morning
Pink like a winter sun
Hovering over and above the trees
For just a moment
A bright flare
Dips down below
The tree line
And I saw the end of you
Sitting and waiting
Always waiting
For time and space to realign
While the stars are circulating
Around hearts and scars
Skin and bones are at war
With waiting
Always waiting
I saw cotton candy clouds
this morning
Saffron stripes through pink and peach
Reflecting in last night puddles
As tires pull them...

The Problem with Space
I’ve a problem with the space
between my ribs
It heaves and shifts when I breathe
And my lungs press against them, hard
So hard I think my lungs must be
Trying to escape their cage
Claw their way out
There’s also the matter of the space
around my heart
It echoes and vibrates when I live
And my heart feels suffocated, stunted
So it tries to skip a beat
Letting everyone know this cavern
Isn’t big enough
And then there’s the space
that surrounds my soul
It glows and shines when I move
And my soul...

Ritual
This pace we keep
Chasing each other
In cars with tears
All in a line
Straight lines
Follow the leader
Follow the ritual
Do as your told
Hold the edges
Hold tight
Then let go
Cover it up
This beautiful cold day
Cover it all up
What's gone is gone
And this pace we keep
Won't change a thing
Throw on the dirt
Plant a rose
This ritual is now
Just a memory

Dear Season
She stands
Alone on the edge
Behind her the fire is raging
Pushing her to the brink
Screaming fear into her lungs
And you see her
Eyes unblinking
She’s drawn to this spot
Night after night
And she takes a step
Measures her own breath
Staring at the lights
They look so much brighter
Than what is behind her, than the fire
So she takes another step
And the lights collide
The stars are at her feet
Blinding lights in the sky
It’s so cold
The life is squeezed from her ribs
And drips from her mouth ...
Alone on the edge

My Bones Weren't Made for This
It's the weight of fear that pulls
Pulls you down so far
A black abyss
Endless
These growing bones of childhood
Weren't made for this
It's the weight of love that drags
Drags you beneath the waves
Rushing waves
I'm powerless
These young bones of merging adulthood
Weren't made for this
It's the weight of this life that settles
Settles deep in you veins like coal trains
Souless
These aging bones of mine
Weren't made for this
It's the weight of everything that
Pushes on my shoulders hard...

I Can't Take My Hand Away
I can't take my hand from my chest
For I fear my heart will fly away
if not pressed
I need the heat
I need the heavy pressure
Of these hands holding tight
So those wings don't take flight
I can't peel these fingers from my skin
For fear my skin might fall away, reveal what's within
I need the surface
I need it all behind the curtain
Can't let those doors be opened
So this soul doesn't worsen
I can’t move these feet from these legs
For fear shiny tentacles might regrow in their place
I need to feel grounded...

Mirror mirror
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Is he the strongest boy of all
What he's endured
And what he's seen
How can anyone come away clean
He knows it all
The truth and the fall
But somehow he raises his
Head to the call
Among his limbs
And broken dreams
He somehow stands
To fight the seams
Of those who have seared
His eyes shut
And sewed up all his missing parts
Mirror, mirror on the wall

Song Bird
I look out of this little cage and see what the world is like
I see all the things that everyone else sees,
I just see them in a different light
Because as the light filters in for my eyes
They must adjust from fractures, broken splinters
I know I cannot leave this cage
I just wish someone would fly in
You can rattle these bars and shake these bones
But you’ll never get what’s left of me, the best of me
You’ve trapped me here and I’m good but it’s bad
See, I’ve got these little seeds wrapped around my feet
