POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
When I put the pen to paper or the hands to keys - I feel as if I'm in a fever until all the thoughts make it out - only then I can breathe.

I’ve invited you in
To see the beauty in my yard
In my garden
See the flowers over there
See the special way they bloom
Blush
That’s the color, what it’s called
Close the gate behind you
No one else can come in
Just the two of you
Did you bring your camera?
There’s so much here to see
Sit here, on the lush green grass
Look there at that bed of flowers
Just about to open up
You’re just in time
I’ve invited you in
In to see the secret garden behind the wall
Behind the vines, vinca vines
Even some poison ivy I...

A Galleon holds treasure deep within
Underneath its full white sails
That billow in the angry or calm wind
While pirates hold on to the rails
I want to be held like that
Safe like that
Away from dangers like that
Floating without knowing
Like that
An oyster holds its pearl inside where it’s dark
Underneath its grown-up shell
That protects what’s it holds from the diver’s mark
In a cave where mermaids once fell
I want to be held like that
Safe like that

Strangely Dark
And the house is strangely dark
Even the wind outside has calmed, the trees standing still
There are no noises from within, just a glow through the darkness
I fumble for the light but it does not come on
My heartbeat quickens as I try to look around
But the house is strangely dark
Then the wind outside picks up
First just a tap tapping from the maple tree, then growing
As if there’s a whirlwind right outside my door
And I wish I wasn’t alone
Because the house is strangely dark
So I step with trepidation, taking the only weapon I can find
And...

The Calling (winner of Tell Me Fantastical Lies Comp)
Sometimes it has a scratching, hate-filled voice
Eager to pull you into it's trap with its scraping sound
But still you listen
You go to it
You run to it's side, willing to please
Sometimes it has a dreadful, mourning voice
Calling out to anyone who'll listen to its begging
But still you listen
You go to it
You run to it's side, offering to help
Sometimes it has a menacing, angry voice
Pulling and tearing at your skin with promises
But still you listen
You go to it
You run to it's side, to hold its hand

Heat Rising
Can you feel it, Can you
Can you feel it
Can you
The smoke from our time together nearly chokes the air
So thick and warm begging, begging for more
You’re a magician, hypnotizing me with your hands
There is music here, turn in on, turn it up
So my breathing can match the beat
I can feel the heat rising when you’re near
And I can’t stop touching your skin
I think you know that I can’t stop the inferno
I think you know that I can’t let go
I just can’t get enough
The atmosphere is fueled by the electricity between us
So put...

The Story Of The Dueling Dragons
The best way I can tell the story is like this
There was one time a black dragon and
He reared his ugly head at such a young age
Such a young age for his prey that is
The prey was not expecting it
For her beautiful swan to become a black dragon
A dragon of hate and fear and lust and sin
The dragon moved through her soul
He changed shapes often but at night
Was always the same black dragon
Once he was a shy and soft fledgling
In need of prey’s help and prey helps
Only to be laughed at, thrown down again
There came a point when...

What Shall I Do
What would I do
If I reached out to you
If you reached out to me
If you took my hands
Make me weak in the knee
Then I’d have to hold on
Hold on to you until the feeling is gone
What if the feeling doesn’t go
Or goes and leaves me feeling low
Then what shall I do
So
What would I do
If I reached out to you
If you reached out to me
If you took my arms
Slid your hands up them, pulling me
Then I’d have to move forward
Move forward until I have to stop, until I’m cured
But what if I can’t be cured, what if there’s no way...
If I reached out to you
If you reached out to me
If you took my hands
Make me weak in the knee
Then I’d have to hold on
Hold on to you until the feeling is gone

When Her Eyes are Green
The misty olive colored water has reflections
Its raining
And the reflections are muddled with rings
Rings that spiral out and out
Not quite reaching me
My hand
Where is sit on the wooden bench
Under my umbrella spattered with pink flowers and rain
Drops that fall and roll and stay just on the edge
Until another pushes it aside
Like tears
Hanging on at my chin until another
Rolls down and screams until the first one falls
Like the ripple effect
Reflected in the misty olive colored water
The same color as my eyes
On certain days...

Wild Horses
Fingers splayed on the window
Forehead pressed to glass
Fairytales replay in her mind
Fragile as they are, fragile as they are
Temperatures outside drop
Tempers inside flare
Tangles of thought twist and turn
Tenuous is the peace, tenuous is the peace
And the fog rolls in
And the trees they sway
And the sky grays like tin
And the wild horses, they neigh
Syllables come out slowly like a lullaby
Stuttering through silence and rage
Sundays full of promise sit quietly in the corner
Small and waiting, small and waiting
...

Deeper Than You Know
I know you’re walking slow – hands out
I know you’re offering everything – voice quiet
I have all the facts and all the proof I need
I know I won’t have to pretend and I can just feel tonight
Sometimes I want to say yes – I’ll let you in completely
Sometimes I just don’t know – I can’t open up that part of me
The wounds are far too fresh
And the cuts deeper than you know
I see you’re waiting there – sitting on the bench
I see your sweet words trying to sweep my up – voice low
I have all the words and all the truth I need
I see in you a...

Beast
It’s in the night that he comes, hovering
The warm breeze rustles the curtains and chimes
I sleep about the paths I’ve taken to where he is
I dream and there is a fire I try to understand
While I’m there I can’t see my hands
Because he has them
It’s in the shadow of the moon that he comes, slowly
The trees sway as if bowing their braches
I sleep half dressed; there is too much heat here
I dream of water that is all around but I cannot see it
While I’m there I can’t see my arms
Because he has them
It’s in the night that he comes,...

Heavy
I know just what it is that you’re trying to prove
I know just what you think that I can do for you
I know you think I should believe in what you telling me
Because it could lift this weight, this heaviness I see
But it’s in the way
Yes it in the way
And I
Got a heavy heart, rolling like thunder
Coming from a part of me that’s on fire
And falling down like rain
Got a heavy heart
And I don’t know if I’m strong enough
I hear you tell me that you want to help fix me
And then make promises you hope that I can see
I hear you but...
