John Oliver is a great example of a caring witty humanitarian on the wrong side of the stay at home debate. I think everybody should consider what he's saying... and sympathize... but look at the other side.

What if this was how depopulation happened? I hate to conjure the Warsaw Ghettos... but how is this safe... allowing mass population control?

We could do so many things short of shutting down!

How disrespectful to flu sufferers are we?

We wouldn't do this for 70,000 US flu deaths!

Agreed...

If people want to be afraid , that is their right...

If people want to hide out and live inside their homes...their right...

If people want to go outside , be in the sun , walk on ground...

That is their right...

No one has any right to tell us what we can or can't do...

We are all going to die sometime...have fun until then !

( and those who choose to live in fear...do so inside )

That’s the sad thing no one wants to really address. The same population of people who are so vulnerable with Covid are the same that are so vulnerable to the regular flu. Yet, we aren’t quarantined every flu season. And flu vaccines are a bit of a shot in the dark, as there can be no prediction as to the strain that will present each year. It’s all a gamble. And that’s just life.

Fundamental misunderstanding of the difference in infection rates between the two illnesses.

Until people take the time to actually understand the reason why the curve must be flattened, protestations about personal freedoms have not considered the true picture, which diminishes the weight of counter-arguments to basic infectious disease control.

Ps, those 75000 people are still going to die from normal flues, plus another 5 or 10 thousand who would normally have gotten medical help that won’t be able to due to lack of beds.

( not quite true....the Covid 19 measures will do a good job on flu also)

lethality of this rona bitch - 3.5 globally and counting.

lethality of an unprepared healthcare system experiencing unprecedented levels of people needing beds, medication, blood tests, ventilators, home care, resources resources resources- unknown

people are right to worry, even to panic, but sitting on a throne made of bog roll isn’t going to help, unless i am way off and society is genuinely about to collapse

It's actually over 4% now ( much higher in certain areas ).  And, yes, people do have a reason to be concerned, very concerned. If not for themselves then for others.

This is how the mortality rate in Italy came to be over 8% (admitting they do have an aging population)

People think that quarantine or isolation is to protect them, but it is not. Most young/healthy people will get this and recover. The controls are in place to slow the transmission rate, to protect the vulnerable from the bad outcomes they will have with an overwhelmed healthcare system.

“This is not about you”

Unfortunately, it IS ALL ABOUT THEM.  To hell with anyone else. They are going to die eventually anyway.

I too am attempting to keep myself out of the conspiracy madhouse right now. Though it’s easy to tumble down that hole...

Bitches be crazy. I've got an old friend begging me to read into a conspiracy theory I honestly have no desire to, but will keep an open mind and do it for her. Hopefully I can INFLUENCE her to not be so paranoid.  Concerned, yes—paranoid, no.

Fundamental misunderstanding about the mortality rate of Covid-19 vs usual flus.

At 4% mortality rate, which is low if entire population gets sick at same time, 12 million people will die in the US. The mortality rate runs at 8% right now in Italy.

Interesting points... but...  we allow alcohol, etc...

Was disease control part of the roundup excuse in Germany?

Bingo.

I'm saying why not for the much greater constant risks? Only now? Why now?

I reject your if/then statement. By your logic, my options are either ignore it or live in fear.

I choose to do neither. I will continue to live my life (am about to jump over the side for my morning lap around the boat), but I will also be realistic, act for the benefit of my community, and try to help others.

To state it: I am not paranoid. I’ve spent nearly two decades researching conspiracies and conspiracy theories. The links one can find that create intricate webs is fascinating. And honestly, where some conspiracies are concerned, the truth is probably far more heinous then what people believe. I only stated keeping my mind out of the “madhouse” because it’s easy to get caught up in things that you will likely never know the full truth about. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wasn't referring to you being paranoid.

And I've read them too, particularly the ones about Sandy Hook, 911, etc.  Truth is always more bizarre than fiction.

You can do as you wish , HemiHead , of course...

And I can believe as I choose...and see reality differently than you...

We do not *see* reality the same , obviously...

Yet , reality is perceived differently for each person...

Unless one is part of a herd mentality...I am most definitely not !
