Stoned

The legend says
that if you stand upon the stone
and kiss the one you love
you'll never part.

We kissed

Prompt

a tale of long ago
truth be bared
leave or go
I never dared

one who dared
killed herself afterwards
she got scared
cos it was played on ouija board

It Makes No Difference In The End, Frosty Bob

The girl was walking through the woods alone,
but any fear was absent from her heart.
The day was quite the brightest she had known

for weeks, but then she pulled up with a start.
'Oh my!' she cried, 'This path now splits in two!'
Then flickerings of fear began to dart

because she saw approaching swiftly through
the trees, along the right-hand track, a man,
and though appearing safe you never knew

with men and pretty girls, and so she ran
along the left-hand path, avoiding him –
but then a bear appeared, more fearsome than

a man, by far! Her chances now were slim.
The bear was mad and gave a mighty roar
before attack! The outlook black and grim,

the girl began to scream, and death for sure
for her was near. Then through the trees, a knife
in hand, the man came running fast. He saw

the bear and stabbed it, fierce in battle’s strife.
The bear fell dead. 'My Hero!' cried the maid.
'You've slain the monstrous beast and saved my life!'

The girl beneath the man lay in the glade.
The man's ignoble hand beneath her dress
dug in her sweet young flesh. Her legs he splayed.
No bear would save her from what's worse than death.

Whispering waterfalls

whispering waterfalls bear witness
to the pain of eventual separation of two lovers
meeting in unfortunate circumstances
separated by societal norms

they took to the water below
crashing into the waterfall's pool
ending their misery forever
to them life was sad and so cruel

Bleak

She couldn't find the way to go
and wandered lost along the road.
Her footsteps dragged, her progress slow,
she couldn't find the way to go,
no one to ask, no one could know
the path to take that no sign showed.
She couldn't find the way to go
and wandered lost along the road.

A lonely wind of sadness sighed
and touched her with its dismal kiss.
Her wretched heart within her cried,
a lonely wind of sadness sighed,
her broken heart within her died,
a broken heart no one would miss.
A lonely wind of sadness sighed
and touched her with its dismal kiss.

Resigning her Soul to the Stars

the sadness was silent
but in her heart so loud
the scream within so stifled
coursing through her blood

the mountain air was cold
but her desire was bold
to reach out to the stars
from the hotel room upstairs

the ground beckoned in anticipation
so pretty with so many flowers
it seemed like a final destination
sprinkled with perfumed showers

Faith

We still believe! We still believe! We know
it's coming home. ‘It's coming home!’ we say …
but, disappointingly, it’s not today.
It's roaming lost, its progress snailingslow,
it now has two more years, at least, to go,
before its chance will come to find the track,
the winding path that brings it welcome back
to where in England's eager loving arms
we'll celebrate its shining silver charms,
and English skies will change to blue from black.

Sapphire

her name was Sapphire
she was every men's dream
she filled them with desire
she set their hearts on fire

she wasn't the settling type
she was a free soul
an elusive dream, fleeting
a mere touch on one's heart

Solitaire

A sapphire,
blue,

a sparkling stone
in a golden ring

alone,
gracing no-one's hand.

Unknown

trapped in worlds created by words
looking up alphabets to open doors
escape from thorns on made up walls
not wishing to hurt or be distressed

flowing with gossamer hopes of healing
trying to look at all positive and uplifting
words as salves as balms to feelings
wanting no vibes of unfriendliness

escape she will one day
out of the window and fly far away
she will shut and block the door
never to let the cold in ever

The Cat, The Pig And Thomas Hardy's Heart

'My Heart must lie beside my wife!'
was Hardy’s dying wish.
The Surgeon hacked out Hardy's Heart
and placed it in a dish.

The Surgeon's Cat was present, too,
'A wasted Heart,' it said,
'to bury it beside his wife
now Hardy's sadly dead.'

And so the Cat with stealth and guile
a fiendish plan it made,
then when the Surgeon left the room,
the Cat it simply stayed,

and though the Surgeon swift returned
he found that Cat was fat
and full with Hardy's Heart inside,
and smug it felt at that.

'Oh, shit! Oh, shit!' the Surgeon cried,
'Whatever shall I do?’
Then down the road at speed he ran
and to the butcher's flew,

and there he purchased one fat pig
then with his sharpest knife
he cut the Heart out from its chest –
now it's with Hardy's wife!

What's Today

What's today he asked again
for the hundredth and twenty times
lying on his bed rubbing his hands
waiting for the twelfth hour to chime

no one heard him or replied
for no one was at his bedside
he lived alone with only his cat
who had to hunt rats to eat

he was too busy dying
to notice the new day dawning
but saw the angels at his door
so he got up and briskly followed

Birdies' Wordies

The song of pretty birds within a tree
inspires a poem's singing words in me,
so picking up my pen I write in ink
the lines their tuneful notes make my mind think.
Then through the branches creeps a hungry cat
that plans to eat the birds and get quite fat,
but with a sudden – Flap! – the birdies flee!
Their singing stops! – but leaves this verse for me.
The lesson from this poem surely is
that when you feel that inspiration fizz
get scribbling instantly, brook no delay –
for like the birds it quickly flies away!
The bards of every age have known this thing
and write when birds of inspiration sing.

The Woodpeckers

two brothers in a distant woodland live
a bird duke named Sir Woody Woodpecker
and his handsome brother Wordy
but all they did was bicker

they used to share a nest
with their tired exhausted parents
were they glad when the brothers flew
Mr and Mrs Woodpecker celebrated with many pints

The two brothers didn't see eye to eye
they couldn't agree on anything
they fought noisily,  with much enmity
they slapped each other with their wings

Woody the noble was very nice
believed in joy and love and endless embrace
he enjoyed his music when he pecked at trees
he thought they were harmonious melodies

Wordy was born with a frown
a rebel he questioned everything
he didn't believe in brotherly bond
contemptuous of his brother's soft feeling

Woody loved and spouted poetry
he sang of peace and tranquility
Wordy hated his words of unity
and despised thoughts of woodlands in serenity

one day Wordy went too far
challenged his elegant brother
he rant on his soapbox with power and might
challenging Woody to an eternal fight

The woodlands creatures watched them fight
they weren't torn between the brothers
they sighed with exasperation
they were losing their almost infinite patience

one day a forest fire blazed
rendering Woodlands bare and grey
the creatures of the forest fled
the Woodpeckers all flew away

Except for Woody and Wordy
unsalted but was rather tasty
a foraging cat after the fire
found a nice barbecued dinner

One For Woody And Wordy (After Thomas Hardy*)🙃

Somewhere their bones, well hid among the trees,
forgotten, lie in earth, forlorn and sad.
No more those two dead birds will wing the breeze
like flashing emeralds, and I feel bad
not knowing where they are. I would be glad
to visit them, their bones the only trace
of noble birds, the life on Earth they had.
But still, at least they'll live on in this place;
for both of them inspired a poem's words by Grace.
