One More Night

Shall we pretend this is our last evening
we scored, hocking the diamond huggies
your old man bought on your sixteenth
the day you were old enough to get pierced
and secretly tattooed on the cusp of your breast.

Shall we make out like this is our first kiss
when you lit me up and inhaled my breath
melted my pipe dreams with impassive eyes
the bitter taste of resin on your lips and whispers
of dragon tales that I’m the best hit you’ve ever had.

Shall we fake it as if you’re still a virgin
like your daddy never laid a hand on you.
You’re gone and I landed after you stopped breathing
holding you like a stillborn… because nobody’s
going to take my baby away from me.

Torture by No Torture

Tears today,
For the death
Of a whimsical heart,
No remainder
Of its blazing heat
& brilliant flame
Only smokey memories
Left to dream upon.

Left is the husk,
The body abandoned,
Lumbering without luster,
Down a dusty hall,
Lonely and stunned
Into silence,
Into reflection.

On glorious days
On glorious youth,
On glorious lust,
On glorious truth,
Into spinning,
Diving excesses,
With no thoughts
Of cost or alibi.

Now with only solitude
& oblivion
& eternity to spend,
Tortured by no torture,
Other than the memory,
Of a whimsical heart,
Now as still as the song,
Of the morning star.

Hell Is On The Earth (For Boston)

scar upon scar,

the deadening of nerves

to feel,

blast upon blast

the deafening of ears

to hear,

death upon death,

the thinning of the herd,

to consume,

we are left stupified,

bleeding in the streets,

but we know,

we know that the good have left us,

the remainder destroy themselves,

consider this:

society is no sanctuary,

to save it we must abandon it,

leave your job,

school,

clubs,

apartments,

leave them.

we must disconnect,

and try again.

retreat!

go to the land,

beg it's forgiveness,

learn again to live on purpose,

& within tribal courtesies,

force yourselves to commune,

& speak face to face.

cities are havens to the mad,

we flock to them,

worshipping them,

as centers of culture & taste,

we should leave them,

as forlorn monuments,

to failure,

& concentrated humanity,

in all of it's hoplessness.

Perception

Perception is what we see
But
Is that actually reality?

Is there always more that informs
What
Is really going on?

Can we trust ourselves to know
Factually
Or
Wholly
The entirety of any given situation?

Or must we concede
Significantly
Truthfully
Conceptually
To the knowledge of our judgment's fallibility?

Due to lack of ability (no fault in us, time-bound that we are) to
Envision
Simultaneously
Each piece of the huge, multifaceted panorama?

We WILL miss something
For
We cannot see another's heart or mind no matter how we try nor how clever we are

We can but trust and hope and love...

Weaving

Spiderwebs in my hair
In my nose
In my eyes
In my thoughts

Spidersilk
Everywhere
Tangled
Body enwrapped
Round and round

Darkness encroaches
Lethe's waters deep
Encloaks
Enshrouds
        Webcrafters
                     Final
                       Sleep

I'll be PMing those who've participated to submit votes as I did for the other competition I'm hosting; but please don't wait for me.

If you know your three choices for this "Best" competition please submit them to me (by title).

Many thanks, humbly yours.

I'm waiting on the votes of four of your fellow poets on this ... Thank you for your patience.

I'll close out the voting by Sunday evening, then tally the scores and post them.  I'll post the scores of all poems receiving votes as well as comments.

Have a great weekend everyone!
