Poetry Contest

write a response to a song prompt
Okay. I put this competition up then took it down because I was embarrassed and thought it was cheesy. Well, I can't seem to stifle the need in me to start it again. So here goes a second time.

I recently made a CD of some music I used to listen to in high school. I got really nostalgic over it since it sounded so good to my ears and brought back a lot of memories.

I'll pick some links to my all-time favorite songs. Just choose what song(s) you like and write a response poem to it (them).

No rules, two weeks. Just take me back down memory lane. (I guess most of these songs were considered "alternative" back in the day...) Make me feel young again.

Songs:

Depeche Mode - "Enjoy the Silence"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0AKJMGxwpE

The Jesus and Mary Chain - "Head On"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGp47YwDZ48

New Order - "Bizarre Love Triangle"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkOr12AQpnU

Bel Canto - "The Suffering"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SsjWsHWVyE

Apoptygma Berzerk - "Unicorn"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpNvt37HPXk

Robert Miles - "One and One"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvl7_D7iTJc

Cocteau Twins - "Heaven or Las Vegas"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j65v7OqlW6I

This Mortal Coil - "Song to the Siren"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFWKJ2FUiAQ

Thanks for listening to my weirdo music. Looking forward to the entries.

green tea & patchouli

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpNvt37HPXk*

have you played with fire [?]
watched the open flame
dance along your fingers
& snapped to snuff the light
as though it never existed
[i
hold a torch
for you]
beneath
this marmoreal façade ~
... come,
come closer to the flame
& let me,
let me pyrograph
my emotions
across your [inner] light...
*
clutch the crystalline cluster
& the variables
which rise
from attempts to divine
the nature of the beasts
in my marrow ~
... fill lacunas
left in the wake
of a savage feast
fix me, bello
fix me though i feel
irreparably broken
in the recesses
obscured by bravado...
*
i weep
cinnabar & cyanide
to keep vultures at bay
who'd pick
at my weakness
but you encourage
the toxic flood
to (b)leach
the jade(d) hues
from my eyes...

The Stand For A New Earth

just because they told you who I was
don't take it personal and don't take it hard
not every body understands the holy spirit and God
but I knew about the wicked ways and deception
about the misuse of resources and the decrease in population
to make a race of elite narcissists and docile slaves
evolution in a day pave way for the utopia
Earth 3.3 the older versions were experiments and cover ups
but something stirs the pot as the plot seems to thicken
people getting smart getting caught catching victims
the dream weaver sent a dream killer to the dream world
set it straight as souls are freed into the new stargate
the nexus crux of critical contact
the cloaked conspirators will reveal their plans
every child, woman, and man must take a stand

      'the suffering'

my grief is deep, my days are dim
my suffering replays
nothing cures the hurt of love
and no one ever stays

your pretty eyes looked hard on me
enslaved my lonely heart
the tears that I have yet to shed
were destined from the start

your kisses burned my lips to ash
have forced me to my knees
caress me with a broken song
bel canto melodies...

Not a new poem,Toni, but it suits "song to the siren" by This Mortal Coil. Elisabeth Fraser is a fav singer of mine

..........................................................

IN THE WOMB of the sea

Listen long, the sirens are singing
To capture the sound
Spirits sailing
The waves

From the water is heard
The viral vocal cord
Of the oval ornament
Of moon

Reflecting over searching waves
The opal transparent tears
And the water is wild, my love

Horizons are waiting
For our hearts, my love
The stars are upon us
Leaving their footprint
In the deep of night

Your eyes shone
Like water
Sea of soul
Soul of sea
Your ivory skin

Towards the seeking
Into the searching
Through the sinking
Beyond the surface
I swim

And the water is wild, My Love

I Have No Fucking Clue Where She Is These Days
by Roachmill

I loved her then.
I still love her now.
We had real dreams.
Those dreams went up in smoke.
I have no fucking clue where she is these days.
I heard she went to California.
I don't believe she would ever do that though.
She is a Montana girl all the way.
And she was pretty in pink.
I'm sure she still is.

We Were Carriers of The Real Faith
by Roachmill

We did it all the fucking time.
We reached out.
We touched faith.
We made up our own rules.
Mickey had a cross tattooed on his upper arm.
Jimmy had a devil tattooed on his ass.
Cindy loved tattoos but she never got one.
I got drunk and passed out and
somebody street-tattooed
a heart on my middle finger.
Fuckers.
But WTF, Jesus was in my hip pocket.
All of us carried our own version
of the Savior.
Reach out.
Touch faith.
Dig.

Gosh. These were all so beautiful. I loved every entry, but in the end I had to go with Katja, then Mourganna, then John, because they each wrote a seemingly heartfelt response and mirrored my emotions. LOL, it was funny because each of them also honed in on my favorites of the list. Mourganna, I love Elizabeth Frasier too; she was a goddess to me and I listened to the Cocteau Twins all throughout high school. (Don't know if you've heard the album "Treasure" yet but I highly recommend it.) Once more thank you so much, guys.

Congrats to Katja,and John.....
Toni, thanks so much for including my poem as runner up,dear lady

Yes, Elisabeth was a goddess of her time, with her "plain" look, and her fantastic voice.
One of my fav songs is "Garlands",I remember playing them 1000 times and listening to "song to the sirens"
with 500 candles lit.
Those were the days....thank you for bringing back many memories.and surely will check that album
kind regards

Fay
