I've an old one needs some air:

You Can't Fake Country Music

watched Willie Nelson today
one song over and over
could read every ounce of joy and pain
in the lines etched onto his face
all the women he'd ever fucked and left crying
present in his eyes. the fights and the bad lies spat
from a drunk mouth rang out with the haunting melody
teased from the old guitar he played

this shattered my resolve
because I'd traded everything I'd loved
and wound up with nothing but an empty shell
no heart  no soul  no fuck all

I'd shunned feelings away
because they make a man stand weak
and now I feel nothing worth speaking of
let alone scribbling onto a page

if I could, I'd arrange a load of fancy words
tell you how much I've missed you
how I'd love to take you in my arms
and kiss you so I'd feel that thumping again
until then, there are only limp words
no heart  no soul  no fuck all

you cant fake country music

but any monkey can write a pop song
as long as there's some mention of beating hearts
sung from a perfect pair of pinked lips
coupled with suggestive choreography

so consider my lips pinked
and watch me, because my hips are synced
to eleven other dancers prancing all around me

"It's you yeah, It's always been you yeah
I just love all the things that you do yeah
ooh ooh ooh you make me wanna do ya, ooh yeah
screw yeah"

you can't fake country
but any monkey can write a pop song.

Johnny Cash

His name had money in it long
before any of these rappers did
Got hooked on his music
Sippin' Jacks as a kid

Stood up to his uncle Sam
And told him "Fuck You too!"
Said I won't be defined
When he sang about A Boy Named Sue

Sang the Folsom Prison Blues
For men like my dad
Stripped of their humanity
His strummin' was all they had

Hound dog's voice kissed
His boom-chicka-boom sound
Sang of Ira Hayes who
Died face down in the ground

Not a drop of Native blood
Could he claim in his veins
But poor was poor
And he sang of those pains

Sang high pitched gospel
A December night not to forget
There was Elvis, Jerry and Carl
A true Million Dollar Quartet

The Man in Black couldn't truly
Walk the Line
Speed and booze robbed him
One Piece at a Time

I still sip my Jacks
Listening to his country sway
I may feel Hurt but that good ol' boy
Always eases my day

I Don't Think They Wrote 'em This A'Way

(“Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way” Parody)

It's the same old dream, writing them songs
but with a day time career
business suits and me don’t get along
seems like I’m stuck in first gear
I need a break!

Somebody told me get on down to Nashville
son you’ll finally have it made
old Kris made it here, we’re all sure that you will
but I don't think Kris wrote ‘em this way
I don't think Kris wrote ‘em this way

Ten years in this cube, trying for a hit
writing my young life away
tell me one more time just so I’ll give a shit
are you sure Tom T wrote ‘em this way
did Ol' Tom T really write ‘em this way?

I've seen the world on a five day plan
that’s all the vacation they give me
writing at work while hiding out in the can
but I don't think Willie wrote 'em this a'way
no I don't think Willie wrote 'em this a'way

I already won in the previous competition, so I'm not entering this comp., but allow me to share my new composition.

Always a Country Girl at Heart

There was a beautiful young girl
who lived on a farm,
in the valley by the sea
where we used to swim and play
We fell in love with each other
both of us, just  didn't know it

She has travelled the world,
tasted all kinds of food
She has been to Paris and Rome
but still longing for home
She was born country like me
and always a country girl at heart

Refrain:
She used to ride water buffaloes
standing on their backs
until they reach the mud bath
Do you think your cowgirl
can beat that? (2X)

Always a country girl at heart
that's what she is, and will always be
No matter where she had been,
and where she is going
She is always thinking of home
because she is a country girl at heart
Always, a country girl at heart...

(Repeat Refrain twice slowly fading on the second)
