Summer in my Island Paradise

White sandy beaches along shorelines
greet the weary travellers
upon their arrival,
relaxing moments
follow...

Swimming and other water activities
will keep you pre-occupied,
diving beyond depths
gives you
thrills.

Summer
gives energy
to dormant souls
long crippled and wasted,
while the whole world watches.

Relaxation,
complete tranquility,
abundant fresh seafood,
and treatment like royalty...
once in a lifetime experience!

CHRISTMAS IN NORTH MIAMI

To this day I remember

We walked hand in hand for hours

On the beach barefoot, avoiding the blue jellyfish

All over North Miami's Hollywood area

Walking in sandals that flapped on the concrete

Gazing at mansions and imagining we lived there

Making plans, gazing at stars

To this day I remember

The smell of the ocean in the motel room

The sun so bright that it chased away the gloomies

Left over from the northern winter

The constant breeze that brought fresh air

From the pounding surf and the Atlantic

To this day I remember

Being young and healthy

Having too much energy

Believing in a wealthy future

Full of children and their laughter

To this day I remember.....

I’m ready to get to the clean; take a stroll on that pristine
I wanna runaway; getaway leaving all the rubbish
leaving it behind; I wanna find the sublime
making sure I’m headed for a place.. one that’s ready for me
one ready for my invasion my incursion, meeting no aversion
ready for me to hang around for the safe & sound
I'm ready to head out with my peanut shells…my
calorie counting crabapple drinks...my
soiled personality traits…wherein all of these are acceptable
I wanna place respectable
one accepting only the shortest hunt for the delectable
I wanna go there now; I’m impatient and
I need a place with patience
a place where I can catch my breath…corral it…wow it…
as it.. simultaneously ...as it takes my breath away, then
applying that brake that’s a breakaway

all at the same time.

You don't let me forget that perfect day we never had
where I slept on your chest in morning sun on deck
while you read me Hardy till
I couldn't stand the flip-flop word-play dreaming any more;
then you read me Buk
and we flew with a dolphin pod in the breezy afternoon
because I'd never seen them so close to my feet, and
you laughed mad
for flying my new dress
right into the spray of waves;
I called you the names
of every bad comedy act I knew, that day.
We sat tandem to watch the sunset surf run up the tide
edging close enough to smooch our toes
while seals sang their hacks and coughs far enough away
to not disturb your chin-shadow kisses on my neck;
but I woke to the sounds
of rush hour traffic outside my window
and not your voice, again.

and this one's an oldie, not about the beach as such... but... it's ocean stuff [:

Open

She doesn't whisper life to me
she roars her stories loud and free
of drunken men and wrecks and fish
secret love and death and with
my eyes set skyward, arms outstretched
she kisses me in the breeze

Shouting songs of fight and right
constellations, ancients, myth and sight
reminding me by all relayed
through curl and colour of sunlit waves
her brutal honesty takes the brave  -
may colours drench the days we sieze

Out of sight-Still on mind...

Cold, clear water
to my waist with every wave
Soles squashing congealed sand
Hair blowing in a salted spray

Low yellow sun
takes it's spot on baby blue
My eyes squint, head tilts
and in the wind
I still hear you

A double masted classic
on the horizon, vanishing slowly
A crane lands then takes a dive
in some tides I feel you hold me

A jet ski appears
poorly idled, too loud

A twin engine plane ascends
caressing the clouds

Heat and light kiss the water
dipping out from the skies
and something in the look of it
makes me think of your eyes

I head back to land
towards sand dunes and umbrellas
The shoreline glimmers
I'm feeling better

Maybe this can be therapy
tomorrow too
I need to do more in life
than just think of you

"Feeling the Need to Get Stuck"
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jMZmfup7Q8g/Th7pUB6odZI/AAAAAAAAAUc/50wl0eU-3V4/s1600/Sand-Between-Toes.jpg
White crystal-sands
lie just
around the corner
from my humble abode,
feel I'm getting old.
It's been years
since
I've run my toes
through them,
millions of
cut-crystals
silently begging
to
stick
to
my feet.
I need
to go
get stuck
before
it's too late.

The Long Hot Summer

Another sweltering
forty two degree day,
the tar on the road
boils under extreme conditions

Old king brown
guards the rocky path
with one swift strike
the king's venom
could end this child's life

Not today,
the king sleeps
soaking ultraviolet radiance

The sand welcomes me
out of the snake kingdom
I glance at the ocean
momentarily transfixed

On the dance and shimmer
the suns lick is strong today

"Splash" announces my entrance
to the under water realm
with spear ready
I prowl the water

Like merfolk stalking prey,
hours pass me by
it's time to present my bounty
the evening feast awaits

I wonder what delights
the rest of the tribe
will present, a European
feast never a small affair

A midnight swim lovely
warm water draws
me deeper perhaps
the family of dolphins

Playfully swimming out of reach
teasing me with graceful beauty
I bask in the light of full moon
radiantly illuminating the shore

I wish those
moon beams
could transform me
