Poetry Contest Description
new poems
For the Music buffs.
Rumors by Fleetwood Mac is a collection of songs written by the band members, mostly about band members (with one or two exceptions) and personal things that they found themselves involved during a very turbulent time of drugs affairs breakups and divorce.
The object of this comp is to pick a song title from below. if you don't know the meaning behind the song you pick..research it.
once you've picked your title write a poem to fit the title and the meaning behind the song.
It's totally acceptable to use a member here as your muse if you like..just saying.
try write a new one for this and try not to go mad on the word count
well that's about the size of it. I'll give it a month.
Best o Luck
1. Second Hand News
2.Dreams
3.Never Going Back Again
4.Don't Stop
5.Go Your Own Way
6.Songbird
7.The Chain
8.You Make Loving Fun"
9.I Don't Want To Know
10.Oh Daddy
11.Gold Dust Woman
12.Silver Springs
A taste of what I'm talking about
http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=19856
^ you can use that link. go to the search box at the top right of it and type in the name of the song.
Edit: ok on reflection i think the parameters on this comp are probably too tight. so I reckon if you base your poem on your own interpretation of the title or song while incorporating the nature of the album then you'll have a legitimate entry.

bad form of me not to start off with something of my own. I'll take 'Go your own way'
Madam Butterfly
She said
"sweetheart, the sun rises far too slow now,
so low now, that the warmth barely reaches past my knees.
there's not enough light these days
to allow our shadows play.
It's time to board the train standing at platform one.
if I wait three more moments it will be gone.
then I'll never ride the tracks
to find the questions to all the answers
that have been filed away under 'not now maybe later'"
now look here!!
yesterday a ghost of a butterfly swooped down
and landed on my ear.
It spoke of an island where spiders had no home.
but I could clearly hear in-between the cheerful tones
that sentiments had yet to catch up with the words.
then it danced a dance in the air
before floating off towards another day.

Songbird (Fleetwood Mac)
For you, there'll be no more crying,
For you, the sun will be shining,
And I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right
To you, I'll give the world
to you, I'll never be cold
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right.
And the songbirds are singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before.
And I wish you all the love in the world,
But most of all, I wish it from myself.
And the songbirds keep singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before, like never before.
Songbird (Magdalena)
I mop up your tears with my hair
in ivory freesia fragrance
No more will they fall as my warmth
seeps through your pores and into your heart
It will be alright because I know it is right
and I give to you my world
as I leave the cold outside in the darkness
while inside our song is playing
the song bird sings as our love becomes
a woven verse of intricate design
in the web we create that connects and binds
our worlds and our love like never before
and like never before
I love you I love you I love you
just like you darling know the score

Entirely decent effort there Magdalena.tiny piece of trivia about that song. when asked if she would join the re-formed Fleetwood Mac,Christine Mac Vie replied "on the condition that I never have to play songbird".. maybe it was an inside joke.
great start Magdalena.

Gold dust woman, you were the best.
You lured me with high-society magic.
I was footloose, fancy free,
wanted to be all I could be.
What a challenge you gave me.
Promised
wealth,
fame,
stardom, and
lots of lovers, you delivered.
I left the comforts of home sweet home,
chose my own path,
I roamed, and
prayed it was right.
Behind the scenes,
you gave me
the strength to fight.
Woke up most mornings exhausted, with
many suitors, jacked-up lovers, screwing under the covers.
They all left me, looted my heart, I was so alone, still stoned.
Frazzled by the razzle-dazzle of your bullshit lies.
I saw it in your pathetic eyes.
Thought they were the ones that
shattered all my dreams.
But, it wasn’t them,
it was you,
made me so dark, so blue.
You lied, I cried.
I cried, you lied.
I almost f’ing died.
You ruled me with
your hidden dangers,
all the while laughing like my enemy, you stranger.
Made me sick, wide-eyed, hiding in the shadows.
Oh, what style you have gold dust woman!
While, you rock on glory queen,
I still pray for your long fall,
tumble from your high and
mighty material kingdom walls.
I scream your epitaph,
“Here lies Gold Dust Woman with a silver spoon shoved up her ass.”
I have class and weep not for your demise,
Home again at last, more the wise!

strider, Good job man. one of the songs that was never really defined by Stevie Nicks in interviews. The most she would say about it was there was references to her cocaine use in it.I suspect it's a much deeper song that delved into her own psyche.
anyhow man, fair play.

Never going back again
She broke down and let me in
Made me see where I've been
Been down one time
Been down two times
Never going back again
You don't know what it means to win
Come around and save me again
And now I'm done
And now two times
Mm-mh - never going back again
And mine
Couldn't trust and she trusted me
I found myself then
Broken down
Beaten
I'm over that mountain no need to climb it ever again
Once a looser caught a break and cashed in
I won't forget it was you that helped me before then
It's still over for me
I've been" done this before
I have no will to do it anymore

I would have liked landslide . They didn't say much on the song I chose except. He wrote it quickly. (I did the same) and it was after his break up. So I tried to stick with the story but kinda hard.

Hey, great stuff Gigi.
My favorite song on that album.
I watched him giving an interview recently He mentioned that he met a lady while on the road after breaking up with Stevie, ' never going back' was a reference to his feelings about not going back to her again. Not sure how that worked out for him though because in the latest version from Live in Boston there is an extra "been down " in it . It has "been down three times"
Anyhoo good job :)
