Wow, Eamon and Mr. A, such distinct, delightful voices. And you women are powerhouse voices. I am a brave man to slide my southern drawl into this mix.

BETWEEN THE CONTRADICTIONS

Between the dependence on independence

and my inner need to be saved

Between the black and white

that my logic tries to categorize life in

the grey puddles in the skies of my optimism

that my emotions dim the lights on

The fear my optimism will run out

as every story gets labelled

a fairy tale or tragedy

Between the satin sheets of my safe haven

that most would call aloof

a raft that steadies me

from the rolling waves of trendy

My world is mighty

painted with the brush of a thousand mistakes

giving my soul a fingerprint

a thread of DNA unlike any other

born of ancestry and the thousands of days

that engrave themselves into my skin

Between these lines

secrets laid bare

Beneath foundations of lessons learned

a man penetrated by discovery

a craving to be dug into deep and deeper

Between the contradictions

there fell an abyss

a chasm of depth beyond the view

the wonder of bridging emotion and logic

Giving birth through that discovery

as life springs forth

Between the tears lays my learning

Between the words lays my understanding

That is the unwritten exposition

defined that it may exist

There

right there

between the contradictions

lays the wonder of me

Good job sausages!

poet Anonymous

Loving all the entries, especially the wealth of accents here!

Oh god this is going to be hard to judge.

Aish Kochavim
Brutal upon waking
(the Goddess shakes me)

smoldering coals seal my eyes
blistered and clean of indifference.

Our ocean home invades
because I know,

(the shadow)

one million shooting stars and a broken moon.

Palms flowing oil,
tongue in flames,
shamayim's glowing whispers captivate...

and sing wild silk lullabies

of truth - of Chaos giving birth
to fire.

(Serpent) fondles forked duality...
entwined,
our blood flows from the same
brutal sky...

screaming souls across breathing miles.

How hot brother?
Your sister longs to burn...

and I bend
to worship at the knees,
even as Self is one and the same.

Darkness
I want to say

"You are my darkness dripping,
you are my feeble ache roiling,
you are my strength personified."

But what if that isn't true,
and truth is all I really have
to blanket the thoughts and curves
so eloquently squeezing this day,
through the hoary cracks and crevices
of a rampant mind?

What if splinters of you and I
stuck under our nail beds
and the slow burn
of infection crept its way like ants
into the marching of time itself,
and spun us on her shadow
just glittering across the sky as dying stars?

Would we be any more effective?
Would we capture the audience as we danced,
radiant in our own regard,
full and drunk on moonbeams?

Six falling stars.
Every night,
as I am quieted and solemn and wanting
beneath the night sky.
Rare, my tortuous little beauties.
And though I wish the same wish every time,
thinking of the same eyes and lashes and lips -
I wonder if they are dying over your back,
as you throw off and devour the heavens
from the inside out.

I tremble at the runes
whose gaze is old, and wise
and never falters in unvarnished vision.
Spit up at midnight fingertips,
warning the prairie of the oceans fury.

The soft whispers still come,
falling and wrapping themselves around me,
cradling my ears and shoulders.
Betray the daylight to save the night...

ah yes,
we land back at darkness.
You are my darkness...

Eamon,
There are generally 2 pronunciations of Hebrew words. The Americanized version and the Israeli version. Here stateside it is long A sound, in Israel it is more like Esh, and in Arabic it is closer to Yiesh (long I sound).  It's still FIRE, even if you do pronounce it Ash

Thanks, Eamon. I loved your entry. This is the best competition I've seen in DUP as every entry is exceptional.
