Poetry Contest Description
Write a poem about Holden Caulfield
Holden Caulfield is one of the most controversial characters in the history of fiction novels. Some people love him, some people hate him. Most of us know he's a hypocritical asshole
So write me a poem showing how you feel about Holden Caulfield. Or how you feel about his experiences. Whatever you want, but I want it to be based off of Holden.

if you have any other questions, PM me.
Good luck & enjoy :)

4 Hours Of My Life Wasted
Holden Caulfield
Where do I even begin.
Personally I wish I could get back that four hours
I wasted on him trying to get to the "good stuff"
Never ever to find any
Like having sex without an orgasm
He kind of just bored me to death.
I don't get him
I can kind of see how in the 1950's he would be a big deal
But personally
I wish I could take back ever meeting him
Ever reading him
Because that book was the biggest let down
The most catastrophic wind up to nothing
That I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing.
If someone could please enlightenment me
Because I think if he says phony one more god dam ti-
Oh there he's gone and done it again!
Surprise surprise
Fucking surprise!
Why don't you throw us for a loop god dammit!
What was the point of any of that?
What the heck was even going on?
And where the hell
Do I return this book?

Phonies Despising Phonies
I felt disobedient; rebellious; like a beatnik hippie.
Holding your novel in the hallways so the girls could see.
We are signs of contradiction, Holden - you and me.
Phonies despising phonies
And I clung to your words like a disciple of Jesus.
Your words were sweeter than honey, especially if obscene.
I understood little, but your image was everything.

teenagers always think they know
and until they understand that they don't
they can't begin to know
(same as everyone else)
that's why they shouldn't have the loud voice
they do these days
their world is black/white
right/wrong
me/you
that way of thinking is easy
lazy
vain
compromise, understanding, removal of ego
are the hard tunes
you'll figure it out
but by then
you won't be
teenagers
so
I couldn't give a fuck
about Holden Caulfield
I've said it
and that's poetry
and until they understand that they don't

Thank you everyone for your entries, and congratulations Morrisey for your creative poem. Laceyspacey and DP, I had a difficult time choosing a winner because I liked the bitter resentment of Laceyspacey's and the truthfullness is DP's.
Thanks again :)
