Art and Therapy
There are too many poets in the world
What can I do stand out from the crowd?
Will my verse be a whisper barely heard
Or will it just be a mist amidst the clouds?
Should I shout louder or rhyme harder
When poetry has been my therapy
Will the words reach the ears of others
Capturing the moment for posterity
But it’s also been an art I try to express
Emotions poured onto paper and pen
Shaping the images from mind to lines
Trying to get it right, over and over again
Poetry has been the journal of my life’s story
The journey of evolution and creativity
A testament of my existence to the future
That today I use it as art and therapy

View from the backdrop
standing in the theatre wings
the shuffling feet is the tinder.
the tinder of ideas
bare page, empty seats in the auditorium
ready face ingrown strengths and inadequacy
shivering mentally
bearing the ink blots of conception
uncertainty a tremor
and then sometimes: not often
the orgasmic rush
like an alpine skier who breaches the virgin snow
cascading and carving the path.
just for moments the blinding sun
captured on your snow goggles.
vanities ego, a thundering express train
heading towards the rockfall of critique
the fallen tree of misinterpretation
stoned and bowed the bruises that hurt.
but just for a pause!
a new nib and blood red ink
the shuffling feet is the tinder.
the tinder of ideas
bare page, empty seats in the auditorium
ready face ingrown strengths and inadequacy
shivering mentally
bearing the ink blots of conception
uncertainty a tremor
and then sometimes: not often
the orgasmic rush
like an alpine skier who breaches the virgin snow
cascading and carving the path.
just for moments the blinding sun
captured on your snow goggles.
vanities ego, a thundering express train
heading towards the rockfall of critique
the fallen tree of misinterpretation
stoned and bowed the bruises that hurt.
but just for a pause!
a new nib and blood red ink

Thank you for your entries! I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to this tonight, but I promise to get the winner selected by the weekend!

Thank you all so much for indulging my Ars Poetica challenge. I really enjoyed every entry, but when it came right down to it, Javalini and Slip were my favorites. Congrats to everyone! You all produced excellent pieces.

Thanks Daisy for hosting the competition. I wouldn't have written what I wrote if it wasn't for this. And a big congrats to the Javalini and Slipalong, awesome poems.
