War Inside

Grave the game was
played once before now
not seeming so far gone
not even how

    ...The war is inside

Tattered remains of
threads still stained
cling to mud and grime
worn loosely still now

    ...The war is inside

A fortress where
the covert subject hides
from his worst enemy
and all who would chide

   ...The war is inside

To recall the chattering
rip through heavy air
waiting for the smattering
the seasoned try not to care

   ...The war is inside

To never emerge
from the cause at hand
a hero remains fraught
with steady and full command
