Welcome, NaPo peeps ! Who saved you, haunted you, or made you? Are heros, monsters and gods in a matrix of our imaginings, or simply all too real to face.  From our earliest, vaguest memories to our vividest moments, a spectrum of characters persist and pervade, reflecting those same qualities existing in ourselves like mirrors. Who or what is in your mirror?

Anti Hero Ideology

Fabricated means of perception in a shell
There’s no such thing as heroes to show us the way
When time finds us abandoned and every man is hell
Fire from the tongue and cheek ignited in every word they say

Lost in the politics of it all
Everyone’s a liar
Make up the passion as you go
We’re writing a recipe for fire

Everything’s at stake but nothings worth the risk
Place your bets on your indulgences
When all we know is selfishness

The admired counterfeits eroding to reveal
Everyone’s a villain where virtue is fiction and no one is real

To tell you the truth at the cost of myself
I fall prey to my own accusation
As I project travesty through the lens of flawed infatuation

Souls sold out with the death of an honor that never was
Thieves appraised by heartlessness bid salvation on sin
Fraudulent nobility coauthored of flesh and the devil that dwells within

Never was there a hero among us when all we sought to save was our own life
Backbones displaced, heads turned to smoke screens when all we know is the language of the knife…

Daedric Dualism - NaPoWriMo2023 #3

One being with two parts;

the light
bright
giggling delight
alright
with heels of flight
spring step
summer-summoner-smile
maddening
gladdening
fields of joy
babbling brook-look
layered joke book
Mad God side,
and

the logical
organised
efficient aspect
categorising
rationalising
ascertained
information
regulated
arranged
appropriate
weighed
measured
instructed
instigated
epitome of Order,

not always at war
but sometimes
subsumed
by the other
until time
evens the score
once again,
perpetuating emotions
and the unbalance starts swinging anew.

#3. A somewhat loose interpretation of the prompt, and a niche deity/deities used!

The Unjust Shall Die By Sight

Staring at shadows as a mirror
Shapes shift to manipulate the image
As I perceive something that I don’t want to see
When monster is just another term for my humanity

Do I step into the dark or does it venture into me
Where do I begin and when does it end, the emptiness of vanity

Sometimes it seems like there’s nothing scarier than skin
When flesh becomes a chain that fastens eyes to relentless gratification

Star gazing at black light sparks in a twisted and wicked abyss
When pleasure authors heartache wrapped in the promise of false happiness

No fulfillment where integrity fails
When I am one in the same of those I once accused
Chasing a liars love when your both the perpetrator and the abused

Touched by fallen angels
Puppetry to the marionettes of heart string webs
Dancing with damnation
Where the ocean flows and ebbs

Reflecting
Am I broken or is it just the mirror
When perception is reality
I guess it’s just my eyes when sight is its own malady…

Peggysoarus

As silvered wings
shrug off the gale
night descends long
her spectre pale

High above it all
soaring in the mists
a soul gallops untethered
in a heavenly tryst

To feel her heart beat
is to flutter great wings
and drift into sleep
as moondust she brings

A creature of myth
birthed from aspiration
look to the star cluster
and view minds creation

Tongue Control

What is a conspiracy of silence
Yet even an ocean of lies that drown the truth
How does a remark stand out in the midst of all that vandalizes the air with drivel
But that I should speak a word against the currency

You say so much and nothing at all
Yet even so, I can say it all but nothing is heard
Lined up against a one person army firing squad
We’ve duals comprised of varied “truths” as they say

Call it roulette and spin the chamber till the pistol quits uttering blanks
I’ve got a bullet that speaks the loudest when it echoes what no one wants to hear

I’m concealed carrying at the mouth
When censorship is tongue control
You can cut it out but you can’t unload the message from the chambers of my heart…

... and that has made no difference whatsoever

The path snaked its way through the forest,
then decided to split into two,
a poet came by and stood wondering
whatever on earth he should do.

'There's a massive absence of signposts,
and I don't know which road to take.
Both the right and the left look inviting,
I hope I don't make a mistake.'

Now the way to the left was narrow,
not many had chosen to take it,
the walk would be very hard going,
and only a fool could mistake it;

but the path to the right was frequented
by many a pair of shoes,
and for any sensible person
this would be the right path to choose.

However, our man was a poet,
not for him the sensible way!
'I'm a poet, not a sheep!' he decided,
and took the left without further delay.

Well, he was stung and scratched by brambles,
and in mud he had many a skid,
but he thought in the end it'd be worth it —
after all, this was what Frosty did!

So he squelched his way through this quagmire,
and conceive his surprise when
the path took a sudden twist to the right
and joined the well-travelled road again!

'Bugger! and blast it!' he thundered.
'Of poems I've had my lot!'
then he went off to be a banker,
just like T. S. Eliot.

Neo

Caught between fiction and reality
What is the difference when the story tells true
Reoccurring dreams draw me in as I find myself one with an idea
Encapsulated in a box of timeless plotting

Simulation methods of a world pulled over our eyes
We dwell within the veil, entrapped by what we see
Plugged into this matrix to grid our routine weeks and weekend revelry

Escape from the program’s grip
Back to a world beyond
When I am not who I think I am
But who I am feels nearly gone

What will it take to wake up now
When sleep enchants us to chase a vainglorious dream
When success is sold on the premise of something material
Surely life goes beyond what is merely seen

Blinded by perception and what it is we’re told to believe
Enslaved within a system of control
Regulated coding governing how we breathe
What good is to gain this world as they liquidate our soul?

She Used to Mollycoddle ~

The first Deity born of Chaos,
She commands, entreats us
not to harm this planet
but to enjoy the bounty
employing our
sight, sound and touch

Pretty certain we were all wards
in the beginning when
mankind came into being
under Her watchful sight

No temples required
for Her forests and caves
were the place for homage
Although not on purpose,
often, when i meditate
while on a nature walk
i feel Her . . .
leas hugging my feet
winds embracing
rain cleansing
tree whispering

Flora, Fauna & Fae
Worship and Honor
Her throughout Her keep
i suspect we, today
have forgotten this duty

Freekenomind

Hollow eyes, plastic hair
only a cyborg to ahead stare
Single minded or no mind
heart in stasis not unkind
Given to walk with legs unflexed
looked upon with sight perplexed
Grave the unnatured unsmiling pout
granted no throat to even shout
A creature fashioned of sadist plans
likening to programmable hands
Dystopian nosoul only penned about
in a wild imaginations restless bout
Made to fit clothes with features gaunt
fashioned to be what others want

When I Am God

Are we not all but hybrids of how we see ourselves
When one man’s monster is another man’s god
Hero’s are relative to bias causes
When truest are we villains at heart

Perspectives war with authenticity
Divided desires of who we are and who we want to be
Perceiving the world through the lens of what we see
Monsters made of men exalted to the roles of corrupt deity

When I am god my judgements are grades on curves of self preservation
When I am god I rewrite truth to fit the narrative of what I deem good bias to my own interpretation
When I am god I’ve got a complex of pride more truly resembling that of the devil

I’m nobody’s hero when all I ever seek is to save myself
Oscillating between personas of men that embody three in one
It’s all the same when self enthrones the heart

Shaping heaven to the specs of personal preferences
Fighting for causes on the premise of self righteous narratives
Concealing teeth filed sharp against hard hearts behind a white washed smile
What is a hero but a god made of a monster?
