a damned soul... set free
a mannequin dressed as a priest
the bride stands in there, hands tied
my hands tied too, to the old bench
and a dirty old rag covered my mouth
the old church is filled with old dolls
dressed up in pretty dresses and suits
a gramophone plays the bridal chorus
he hummed while swaying to the rhythm
I could see its body dark as the coal
skin covered in flies and red maggots
I felt something dripped on my shoulder
I looked up to find the bodies of our families
what to expect when all the hope is gone?
what am I scared of, to die or to see her killed?
...but why today?

Competitions are for fun. Ok, they can be ''serious'' fun as you can see by the pieces alread submitted. Nobody is writing a thesis on the subject here. With respect: take a deep breath.

Angel Eyes (A Witche's Tale)
and so
the man came and told
the frightened woman
of her husband's demise
that soldier
a true man of honor
who called her angel eyes
then when he left
she grabbed a
white cloth
dampened it
a little
wiped her eyes with it
and cried out
to no one
she grabbed up
the string of beads
where they lay in
the wooden box
she kept it in
along with her mittens
and fled the cottage
running deep into
the thick forrest while
choking on her tears
Closing her eyes
she tried
to find some words
to say a prayer
but instead
she cursed God
for he had taken
the one thing
from her
she truly loved
It's because
I am a witch
you have taken
the one person
I can not live without
it must be my
punishment
why else would you
take my man
from me
when I carry
his child inside me
she saw the black bear
from the corner
of one eye
and knew it was approaching
then she cursed
her maker one last time
as she felt a claw
brush her back
she bit a clenched fist
as the black bear
took her down
the man came and told
the frightened woman
of her husband's demise
that soldier
a true man of honor
who called her angel eyes
then when he left

I just noticed your entry in the competition. I like. However: you are still above the 30 lines limit so, yes, good write, but not for the competition. Regards, Robert ( I am still in the hospital so I think sometimes my brain goes wooooozy

Puritains of greed
They looked behind the closet
quoted texts from the good book
where was the evidence to indict those so dishonest ?
innocence never to escape a baited hook
Did they fly on broomsticks high
sack and cloth of scriptures vent
paranoia is the stream that undermines
the curse, that saw justice's so blind intent
The power to bend and distort
make the pact in the vein and pulse
not honest but deception, the laws escort
the devils work; did just result
To advocate, a brew of civic hate
not straight and narrow, a path astray
that there may be another doctorate
one that would nor choke and subjugate
In the caldron of the courts behest
eye to eye and heard the charges read
the devils pact, all evil deed's attest
all guilty; let no one be misled
The crowd outside, baying out for blood
agitators shouting, time to stretch their necks
show no mercy spoil the child and spare the rod
the gallows with its tall derrick
In Salem's square they lead them out
the noose its bounty, no spell could break
hanging like black carrion, for all those that doubt
assumption, and not questions; to kill for killing sake
