When I smile
I don't
I've got a good idea though
Of what it feels like
Swinging naked
On a swing
From ear to ear
And back again
I've got a good idea
That when they heard
The squealing chains
They knew it was
Me smiling
Right through
The flashy silver darkness

Happiness All Around You
You want to be happy, but what does it really sound like? Maybe
It is when you are in your favorite spot and you are hearing her
Or his heartbeat when you go to sleep late at night. It is when they
Answer the phone and you hear their sleepy voice that says baby.
It is when you are hearing the tiredness and you are hearing the slur
Of words in their voice that makes you giddy that they make way
For you in their life. It just might be the simple sound of laughter
When you do silly and stupid things. Sometimes happiness could
Come in with the silence and take you completely off guard. It
Could be the crashing of waves, but you are not drowning after
You have already been submerged. It is when the rotting wood
You used to float on no longer sinks you. It is when you finally fit
In with the right people and you no longer have to pretend like
Happiness did not find you when you were about to end the war.
You sometimes carry too many weights that make you weary.
It is all about having really good fortune and the extra strike
Of lightning. It is hope when you never believed in God before,
But he whispered in your ear I am saving someone extraordinary
For you and you will just know it in your heart when you meet them.
You do not have to hear the sound of a broken heart or flower stem.
