Thank you! I’ve included a stand alone section for the collabs.
You’re a brilliant writer and have a keen eye for talent… and poetryt! Would you be interested in taking part in the curation of a specific category?
I’m not very technically mind and I’m working on a Master’s right now, but so long as it’s not massively time consuming I’d be happy to curate, say, “Dark” poetry.

case28 said:Based on the feedback so far and some consideration into how the lovely Webmistress has structured and categorised the website, this is the proposed structure for the DUP Anthology:
1. Foreword
A reflection on DUP’s history, its impact, and what made it special.
2. The Best of DUP Poetry (Divided by Categories)
Each section will feature standout poems from across the years, curated by the DUP community:
Love Poems
Dark Poems
Erotic Poems
Spiritual Poems
Anger Poems
Upbeat & Inspirational Poems
Observational Poems
Self Poems
Drugs Poems
Story Poems
Song Lyrics
Fictional Prose
Non-Fiction Prose
Miscellaneous Poems
3. Best Poetry Collaborations
The most epic collabs where poets created something truly special together.
4. The Best Poetry Competitions
Showcasing winning or standout poems from some of the most legendary, challenging, creative, and inspiring DUP comps and NaPoWriMo Challenge – Standout poems from this annual April poetry event.
5. Iconic DUP Moments & Features
Forum Rants – The most legendary rants, including Ray Heinrich’s alligator clitoris rant.
Best Questions from "Ask a Question" – A selection of the funniest, deepest, or weirdest Q&As.
The Muggle – A look back at this satirical publication and its impact on the community.
DUP Podcast – Memorable moments and featured poems from the site’s podcast.
6. Hidden Gems & Underrated Poets
A section highlighting poets who may not have competed in comps or posted prolifically but wrote incredible pieces.
7. Memorials & Tributes
A page dedicated to poets who have passed, featuring select poems or words of remembrance.
Feel free to make comment and let me know if there’s anything to consider.
Good categorisation… just asking, does each group also can include Visual poetry & Spoken poetry? Cos, Visual was a big category then .. when i remember Web miss used to have monthly comp for this.. also Spokens too i remember used to be a monthly comp then:)
Else suggest, both these Viz & Spokens - can be given a separate section..
In print- can viz & spoken be put up? Atleast with links?
Case, I can take up Love poems curation.. & if someone of a poetic Love legend;) wants to team up with me, that would be great since poems in this section are the most prolific i hope!:)
Hidden gems & underrated poets- sure, i can help to get chalk out some greats in this section.. offer to help anyone who wants to take this part..

For now, NaPo will have its own subsection within Poetry Competitions, rather than DUP Features, since that’s where it belongs in the forum. I envision that you’ll need to select three standout poems from each year NaPo was held.
I’ve also updated the category list in the previous post to reflect this change, see below.
So, 3 NaPo poems from each year = 27 ( 9 x 3 ), and then 18-20 poems from the Spiritual Category? Gotcha.
Who do I submit these to when complete?
EDIT: Final question, hopefully! Do I submit the written permission for each submission with the submission to whoever will be receiving them?
EDIT: Sorry, not the last question! ^
As a copy editor, should I 'gently correct' typos or spelling/grammar prior to submitting them to whoever I am submitting them to? ( I don't mean lowercase when it's meant to be lower case, or made-up words that are meant to be made-up ( NaPo allows you to make up words.).)

In addition to the questions above:
Another Question ( so SORRY! ): Could there be some form of communication ( a google spreadsheet, perhaps ) between curators as to the poets we've selected? I mean, in my humble opinion, it wouldn't be the best representation of DU if one poet was featured 2 or more times in the anthology, knocking out another poet who was a regular contributor of DU. PLUS, it would help us to coordinate with another curator and decide between us which poem would best fit the anthology?
For example, say I chose John Doe from Spiritual and another curator chose John Doe from Love, and yet another chose John Doe from Observational. Would it be wise to get together, exchange the poems we've selected, and then decide between the three of us which one would be represent the anthology. This would free up two categories to select two additional DU members that would've otherwise been omitted.
There are thousands of poems in each category - selecting 15-20 is tough as it is, much less some poets getting selected multiple times.

I want to chime in here. I know you said no visuals; however, the poem that Webmiss wrote for NaPo, my first selection from that category, is the visual poem above. I am certain she would allow me to separate the poem from the graphic; however, being it's her poem, I think it would make a lovely cover or back cover to the anthology ( though I don't want to step on anyone's toes who is designing that ).
I feel like it's SO IRONIC that her poem points to the very month that DU is closing down and is entitled "A Path Unwritten" ( which would also be a great title for the anthology itself.
A Path Unwritten
The Deep Underground Poetry Anthology
2009 - 2025
Again, though, I don't want to step on anyone's toes. As I was pulling her poem, I teared up at the irony of it all, because in May we will all be facing 'A Path Unwritten'.

Hello DU poets,
As we move forward with curating the Deep Underground Poetry Anthology, I wanted to share the proposed breakdown of poetry categories and how we’ll be approaching the selection process.
Category Breakdown & Poem Allocation
To ensure fair representation across the diverse range of poetry on DU, we’re aiming for a total of 210 selected poems. However, we’ll over-select up to 280 poems (about 33% more) as a contingency. This will allow curators flexibility in the final selection process while ensuring we don’t feature any one poet more than 1-2 times to maintain balance.
Here’s the proposed breakdown of poetry categories, including the number of poems allocated and their percentage in the anthology:
Love Poems – 38 poems (18%) – Many poets categorize their work as love poetry, so we’ll need to evaluate selections carefully to ensure proper classification.
Dark Poems – 32 poems (15%) – A significant and well-represented category in DU’s history.
Erotic Poems – 17 poems (8%) – While popular, this category is allocated fewer slots to maintain a balance of quality over quantity.
Spiritual Poems – 17 poems (8%) – DU has a strong presence of poets exploring spiritual and philosophical themes.
Anger Poems – 11 poems (5%) – Represents raw emotion and intense themes, a staple of DU poetry.
Upbeat & Inspirational Poems – 17 poems (8%) – A mix of uplifting, motivational, and hopeful works.
Observational Poems – 21 poems (10%) – Encompasses poetry that reflects on life, society, and human nature.
Self Poems – 21 poems (10%) – A broad category including introspective and personal pieces.
Drugs Poems – 13 poems (6%) – Because we love them… but we need to do less!
Story Poems – 8 poems (4%) – Narrative-driven poetry that tells compelling stories.
Song Lyrics – 6 poems (3%) – For poets who have blurred the lines between poetry and music.
Fictional Prose – 4 poems (2%) – Shorter prose works that are poetic in nature.
Non-Fiction Prose – 4 poems (2%) – Reflecting the importance of personal essays and memoir-style pieces.
Miscellaneous Poems – 11 poems (5%) – A space for standout works that don’t fit neatly into the other categories.
Next Steps: Curation & Coordination
I’ll be setting up shared Google folders and a spreadsheet shortly to help consolidate the poem selections. In the meantime, I strongly recommend you start saving copies of potential selections for your category. Take screenshots of the poems and organize them in your own folders for now; this will help us later when we’re finalizing selections.
Thanks so much to everyone who has volunteered! If I haven’t responded to you yet, I apologise… but if you’ve put your hand up, you’re in, and there’s no turning back now!
We need more volunteers! If you’ve already put your hand up to curate a section, please reach out to your DU friends and see if they’d be willing to help. We all have lives outside of DU, so the more people involved, the lighter the load for everyone.
If you're keen to curate a category (or multiple), let me know!
Peace and respect!

I like your vision, Ahavati. I want us to focus on the content now and there’ll be plenty of discussion regarding the title and cover, but I do love your sentiment!
There are some very talented artists who have called DU home and I would love for them to step up and get involved.
The visual poem itself I’m sure will find a place in the anthology, however we’ll need to try get a copy of the original, so we don’t have issues with printing due to poor resolution of the image.

Clarification needed: Are NaPo & the Podcast to have their own category or will those poems go into the respective categories listed above? I have already begun receiving emails with poems and release forms for NaPo, and need to know how to categorize them.
Yeah, I was emotional when I posted that about Webmiss. I have the original, hi-res file she sent me if and when needed. And I have emailed her for permission.

I’ll provide some clarity on my thoughts for the inclusion of poems in The Best Poetry Competitions (including NaPo) and Iconic DUP Moments & Features sections:
These sections will have their own curated selection of poems, meaning there’s no need to duplicate or include NaPo entries or competition-winning poems in the general poetry categories… unless, of course, a poem stands on its own merit beyond its original context.
For The Best Poetry Competitions, we’re looking to showcase standout pieces from some of DUP’s most legendary, creative, and challenging competitions over the years, along with poems and highlights from NaPoWriMo. Similarly, Iconic DUP Moments & Features will include forum rants, Q&As, satirical golden nuggets from The Muggle, and memorable moments and possibly featured poems from the DUP podcast.
I’ll be asking curators handling Iconic DUP Moments & Features and DU Comps & NaPo to write introductions, background notes, or commentary where needed to provide context and capture the spirit of these sections and events. This will help frame the significance of the poems and moments we’re preserving.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

Okay great. I'm worn out right now, I just finished updating my site ( that's what I get for eschewing work and going out today ). I'll wait for the spreadsheet and fill in the names of Team NaPo ( previous and past members ). They will definitely be featured for their tireless and dedicated service to this annual event. Plus, they're kick-ass writers who deserve a feature spot. Then we'll move onto submissions from there.
